Powerflex Dog Bone Mount

Hi Guys,

ordered mine today.........do you need to replace the bolts when fitting the new dog bone mount?

To confirm the torque settings are 20ft/lbs for the rear bolts, 33 for the gear box?

Does anyone know the setting for the centre bolt?

Cheers all

I changed mine to polybushes about a month ago, bought from Badger.

Big difference in performance, but still get trans noise when pulling away in first or reverse.

Easy DIY job, took me 30mins max.

I'm sure there will be people who've done this job, and will say you don't need to, But personally i did support the g/box on a trolley jack, it's just an extra safeguard should something go wrong.

The engine is supported on mounts but if one of these is a bit dodgy..., i;ll leave you to decide.

better to be safe than sorry in my book...

It's an easy job job tho' about 30 minutes all told.

I didn't...

My mate at a garage kindly let me use a lift for the car. I just took th mount off, changed the bushes and did it all back up agian.... No probs!

I didn't need to chock anything as its all mounted from the top. This mount just limits Front to Back movement.

Longman,

How have you found the handling on your car since doing the D/B mount,

Having had mine done about a week now, and also the S3 lower brace done at the weekend, the car holds a much tighter line through bends now, and doesn't need constant correction through the steering.

I've gotta say this is how the car should have been to start with, once the upper S3 brace turns up, and the rear one, I thinking maybe i'll wait to spend a load of money on new suspension, maybe just get some new ARB's when funds allow... overall i'm pretty pleased, with the results so far....:D

it's starting to handle like my old fully polybushed 306..... only faster.. :cop:

At first, I found the vibration really harsh and considered changing it back or at least taking one of the bushes out for the original.

However, after a few hundred miles, its settled down and is now fine. I have found that the front wheels don't skip so much under full acceleration and the TC light has become less frequent!! This is just what I did it for.

Cornering has not changed much in my opinion as I wouldn't have expected it too really. (Haven't got either ARB)

I found the worst thing about the Powerflex bushes was pulling away with low revs..It felt really harsh and made everything shake.....Its definitely settled now though!!

I agree, it should have been there in the first place but, as I have learned in the last 2 years in Automotive mfg, there is a reason for everything and there are standards that cars have to be built to....Shame really, although it give us all something to do and keeps good people like Forge and Badger 5 in business!!!!

Absolutly matey,

Tbh, i turn off my TCS most of the time only really leave it switched on, when it's wet or really persisting down.... As i find the car a bit more peppy (pulls harder through the gears) with it off.

But i did notice when i first got the car, with TCS on, breaking hard comming up to roundabouts, if the road was slightly uneven at all the TCS was flickering all the time.... now it isn't so on that level it was a success, and the vibration as you say has settled down a "lot" from when i first fitted it...

result i'd say.....:funk:

Hi All,

This is some thing I have been looking at doing so have done a bit of a search, several posts say that strech bolts are used and so need to be replaced when doing this, did any of you guys use new bolts? If so can you just pick them up from any SEAT parts dept?

I just used the originals again.

I can't see that it makes that much difference. Its not like a cylinder head that has to put up with serious temperature change.

No, quite the opposite. It has less flex in it so stops the engine from moving away from the mounts and chassis as much, which means the engery used to lift the car is actually being put down on the road instead.

The link below should confirm that mate. You don't need to change the bolts, they aren't that tight or critical to need to be changed.

Good luck!

I.ve just fitted my dog bone mount..................took about 1 hour including test drive before re-fitting the plastic sump guard.
Only very slight vibration (but nothing to notice really) feels crisper at the front, less skittish.
Worth the cash for such a simple mod.

I followed the instructions here (thanks longman):

http://www.neuspeed.com/data/installs/22.10.89.pdf

I did not manage to turn the extra 1/4 turn that they recommend after torquing the bolts, only got about another 10mm turn, which felt enough to me!

Longman - did you manage the extra 1/4 turn?

Re-used the existing bolts with a little loctite & applied a smearing of copper grease between the bush faces (grease supplied in the kit)

All in all worth it i think;)
