Powerflex Dog Bone Mount

In between the rain showers yesterday, i fitted my Powerflex D/B mount, and what difference it's made to the whole attitude of the car.

Ok so there is a slight harshness in the drive chain now, especially noticable at standstill when reving the engine, but the car feels just so much more connected now, this one small mod has completely changed the feel of the car, a very well worth while change, especially for the price it costs.

Excellent... at least somethings gone right this week

Sorry maybe that was a bit harsh!
Its one of the engine mounts, thats the best way to describe it!
Its crap as standard so changing it helps put the power down better and make the car a better drive!

Haha no i wasnt! like i said forgive the muggyness of myself,so whats the price on these things then? my cars in the local tuners next week so may get it done then.

I did mine a couple of months ago. Agree.... Much better feeling and not so much front wheel skipping when you pull away quick,

The vibration NVH settles after a while, I found pulling away when the revs were low was horrible when I first changed it but its ok now!

Did you find it a bitch to get the assembly back together off the car without compressing the bushes to get the long bolt in?

So just over £20 quid plus fitting? i will order one now,sweet.

will prob take about 3 days of good driving and it should be ok!
20 quid plus 20 fitting - ish! only takes bout 20 mins with right tools!

Longman, Tbh, i just put the assmbly in a vice wound it up about an inch and screwed the bolt up tight, nice and simple, didn't have any torque settings for the central bolt, but all the others were torqued up to spec.

All in all probably took about 30 minutes to do...

I found doing the D/B mount was a lot easier than i was expecting, and the job i was expecting to be simple, fitting the S3 lower brace turned into a nightmare

ok, ive been wanting to do this for a while and since my dad has a tonne of tools for me to utilise i reckon i will have a go. one problem, i have no clue where the dog bone bush is in the engine bay? can anyone put a pic up?

also, do i only need to order 1 from forge or more than 1?

1 bush set per car!
its under the car! right under the engine!

Dog Bone Mount

Heres a pic of the dog bone mount, there are 2 bolts holding it to the subframe at the back, and 2 at the front holding it to the bottom of the gearbox.

You'll need to support the gearbox on a trolley jack, undo the 2 bolts under the gearbox first then the 2 on the subframe, then it just drops out, the middle bolt holding the mount is'nt very tight, hold it in a vice.

When putting the new poly bushes in, put it all back together and you can compress the poly mount in a vice about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch and you can push the centre bolt back in enough to undo the vice and tighten the centre bolt up with a spaner or socket wrench, then stick the mount back on the car in reverse to removal, do the back/subframe bolts up to a torque of 20 ft lbs first then the g/box ones to 33 ft lbs, job... jobbed, in about 30 minutes.

brilliant, thanks loon, very helpful! i assume wood blocks are acceptable to support the gearbox as i doubt my dads trolley jack will go up that high when the car is on the ramps!

Yeah wood blocks are perfect, thats what i used on top of my trolley jack, so it wasn't metal against metal..

No need Skagigh.... Just undo it and take the mount away to work on it. Nothing moves, it will all stay put.

I was lucky enough to use a ramp in a garage so it was right up high...Piece of cake job.

The hardest bit for me was, like I said, compressing the bushes back down to do the bolt up, on the mount, they are a lot harder than the oem ones.

Don't be shy with the grease either pal!!
