Hello All, need as much advice as possible, driving home tonight in the worst rain ever came round a blind bend and hit a big puddle and the engine died straight away tried to restart it as I was in a dangerous position and its starts then dies straight away lucky the local stealers were 100yrds down the road so I had to push it down there with my bro!! nice to see their ever helpful and came out to lend a hand in such a dangerous position!!!
What you reckon guys worst case total rebuild bent conrods etc
Cost? Parts?
Has this happened to anyone else? I'm about to cry just before christmas don't need this any advice welcome!!

Cheers, Matt

From a dealers, muchos.......id imagine about 3k
I got a complete rebuild and a clutch fitted for £1200 at vagtech
best bet is to get a quote from a specialist once you know where you stand

If it starts then dies straight away then there shouldn't be any bent rods. Might just be some electrics screwed up possibly immobiliser???

Spoken to a few friends who are mechanics, they reckon it wouldn't idle at all if I had hydrolic lock(****ed engine)!! I hope its just a case of flush the engine out oil change, filter, air filter, take the plugs out and crank it over to push the water out new plugs clean the maf and air box!!! and hope it fires on all four cleanly!!

What do you guys reckon some people must hav an idea I'm brickin it!!

disconect the maf and try to run the car i reckon it may of sucked in a load of water and burn't the maf out. If it had hydroliced it would start to turn the stop as the water wouldn't be able to be compresed unlike air. If its not that u may need to put vag com on there and see wts going on

it could be fatal, hydraulics filled with water is not a problem in its own right. then you try to start engine with water in and hydraulics have nowhere to release pressure=wreckage.
I hope its electrical mate, for your sake.
I would consult your mechanic mates before undertaking any "cranking" of the lump.

this happened to me down a country lane once went though a massive puddle at speed but my car totally died, i pulled of the round (very hard cos i had no power steering)and tried to start it up again and it wouldnt start, so i checked all fuses ontop of the battery and underneith the steering wheel, low and behold one had blown under the steering wheel dont know which one but replaced it and the car started, once started one of my coilpacks started to fry and melt itself to the plug, which was a bas*ard to get off the plug, removed that then just run it on three cilinders till i was home about half a mile away, so check all fuses, maybe just needs to dry itself out overnight. hope this helps good luck

Thank the lord all was well. The stealers cleaned out the airbox replaced the filter and cleaned the maf, which were apparently soaked. It fired up first time and ran perfect. They put it on vagcom and it showed no faults. I'm gettin them to carryout the service at the same time just as a safety thing to flush the engine out(peace of mind) and i need my booked stamped up.

Cheers for all the advice guys!!
