Look after the car, and try and get some sound clips up once you have the milltek and the remap etc sorted out :D should sound mint.

Cantbelive you have this car at 25 :cry: but you earnt it so why not :D

A contractor here has a Black CSL with the AP Racing brakes on it. He says its a massive improvement. His has just gone back in under warranty for a new diff, and something else which was equally expensive.

I envy you for the car almost as much as I do for the house it is parked infront of, or the car yours is parked infront of (is it a Sagaris?!)

APs are going on my car next month, I can't wait...

I wouldn't own a CSL without warranty... with warranty its amazing, fantastic, and a brilliant car to own... without it, it'd be quite expensive.

Andy, do you use the CSL as your only car? I was going to buy an M3, but to be honest the one I drove (manual) was underwhelming. I drove a CSL yesterday and it was much better. though the trumpet flap wasn't working from what I could tell.

I think I could live with it everyday, but since you've had yours for a while I just thought I'd ask. If it's as good as I imagine it'll be getting exported as well - to New Zealand.

yep, my only car.

Its fabulous, and practical too - I moved house (to holland) in it.

Mostly I don't do many miles, but in the last month I did about 6000 miles, 1000 miles or so moving house, 3000 miles driving to/from the nurburgring, 2000 miles driving on the nurburgring.

Been through:
two sets of tyres...
>2000 litres of super unleaded
2 sets of front brake pads
2 sets of rear brake pads
1 set of front brake disks (one set warped)

in the last month...

Also have done/am getting done the following:

- AP Brakes (front+rear- had only fronts for a short while much more balanced with rears done too).
- Intrax 4 way adjustable coilovers (std suspension bottoms out if you go quickly in places round the 'ring)
- AC Schnitzer Rear rollcage (apparently still allows access to rear seats, and is removable without damaging car)
- Replacement powersteering (done + fixed under warranty, pump had eaten itself at the 'ring)
- Replacement clutch (slurring changes between gears, being done on friday under warranty)
- Replacement wishbones (done under warranty last november)
- Replacement airbox (warranty, flap sticking, perm cure)
- Replacement rear trailing arm bushes (warranty, made car more stable)
- Replacement washer fluid tank (warranty, stopped leak)
- Replacement steering wheel (warranty, old one was tatty).

Was at the 'ring for 5 weekends on the trot, saw a lot of nice machinery, but nothing I'd rather have to the CSL - GT3/GT3RS are the only cars which really go better round there than the CSL, and they lack the practicality, and are only a couple of seconds faster over the 13 odd miles and lack the stability the CSL has - thus a lot trickier on the limit.

I had a passenger lap of the 'Ring at Easter in a friend of a friend's CSL, that's what got me wanting one. I thought maybe an M3 coupe would be better for me since I want to use it as a commuter (and possibly not at all on track at all as I have the 944 for that, though I'd have to do at least one day...), and maybe an SMG one would be OK but the manual is horrible - gearchange is both rubbery and notchy at the same time, throw is too long and the lever is in the wrong place. On balance though I think if I stretch the budget a little further than I wanted to spend for a CSL I'll be happier with the car and it might hold its value better. I do still want to drive a cabrio though as maybe that will compensate for the quietness of the coupe and make it seem as fast as it is.

Much as I've had 8 Porsches the GT3 doesn't do much for me; I'd rather have the CSL.

They're fantastic machines... only thing is about the only thing worthy of replacing it is a GT3, which costs significantly more :(

Is that the one on PH just now? I must admit I prefer black to silver grey and it looks like a nice one, but I have a 911 to get shot of before I'm ready to splash the cash.

As I think you've discovered, the difference between the CSL and a normal M3 is like light and day - its much greater than the sum of the parts.

Whats interesting is talking to a few people who 'graduated' from a M3 CS, into a CSL.
Despite what most of the mags said, the CS is not 99% of the CSL - the CSL feels a lot more alive and is hugely more rewarding to drive.

SMG gearbox is great, I can't fault it - whilst its not as 'pure' as a manual, its fantastic, especially on track. - and you can put it in the self shift mode when driving home when you want to relax.

Oh and Tyre wise... I'm halfway through my next set of cups already :) - they're good for about 70-80 laps of the ring, plus a couple of trips to/from there.

Have bought some Pzero Corsas for my 18" M3 wheels, which I'm going to try out soon, too.
