I know alot of people have got abit mixed up with the I-pod connection ect.

So what I have done is taken some photos of the cradle you need to buy from parts to make the upgraded usb/aux work with your ipods!

Any pics of the USB (not ipod) side of things, if i only wanted to stick a memory stick in there as i don't have an ipod ? - i take it that it wouldn't be a simple USB to Female USB cable ?

You wouldn't need any cables for a memory stick. If you spec the combined USB/AUX option then there is a standard USB socket in the centre console just below the air-con controls, you just slot in the memory stick and you're away.

In fact the angle is quite helpful as it sits slightly in the shadow of the main console. Looking in through a window you would struggle to notice there was anything plugged in.

I already have the car, it didn't come with the USB feature. I want to add that feature post-build.

I don't have an ipod, i simply want to be able to use a 4GB memory stick with the radio (Mk5 Ibiza), i was told by SEAT this would cost £210 fully fitted ! - Are you telling me it's just a standard cable, something i would be able to do myself with a USB to USB Female cable ??

Andy

not sure andy, that's just pics of the doc, not the factory fited option.... why not just slip the head unit out and see whats on the back of it? I'm assuming it's easy to get out

the cradle thing is just an ipod holder, with a docking station and headphone jack built into the bottom of it that you then connect up to the usb and aux in socket in your ibiza... thats what i tlooks like to me anyway??

you'll need a 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable, (http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/35mm1.html) (maplins et co will stock them). plug one end into your ipod headphone socket, and one into the "aux in" socket in your ibiza to hear any sound out of it. Ipods aren't capable of providing audio over the USB connection.

Im interested to know if the USB functionality requires some kind of headunit firmware based activation, or just plugging a cable into the back of it. and routing to somewhere in the cabin

Same here !! - didn't really dare unscrew the radio as the screws look odd! - would love to see a pic of the back of the radio !

Sorry mate but that's wrong. My friends retro-fitted alpine radio plays his ipod and my iphone via the bottom dock connector with nothing in the headphone socket. and as it's plugged via the dock connector you can pick songs etc via the radio.

I have a shiney new Golf TDI (2.0 110bhp) and that has an ipod dock connector thing but it doesn't seem to handle music to well as sometimes it sounds like its mono not stereo... I'd assume that the Ibiza's would be like this and maybe play via the dock connector alone but just in mono..? but gives the cool radio controls (not so great when the phone rings, but it's clever enough to pause the song play the ring tone and then continue with the track ;) )

The golf's nice but i want my beeza!! (golf is a hire car I'm using for work at the moment (driving to/from Plymouth! :S) It's pretty nice, actually really nice but i just don't like the look from the outside!

Yeah, after thinking about it, i'm gonna retract that statement  as the ipod will be providing the audio in digital form over the usb, rather than analog through the headphone output

not sure why it'd sound mono though, I can play tunes off my ipod via winamp on my pc and it still comes out in full stereo.
