The phatbox arrived just before Christmas. Held up by some courier mixup, package was apparently "refused by an old lady"

I just got round to fitting it this weekend. I was (naively) assuming that the brackets which hold the CD changer in the glove box would screw onto the sides of the phatbox but nope. Three holes in a triangle on the CD changer, 3 holes in a row on the phatbox.

At the moment it's just wedged in place in the glovebox with a piece of cut up towel padding the underside, and the plastic surround put back.

Eddy, how did you fix yours in place, are the fixing arrangements for the CD changer different in the Ibiza and Octavia to the Leon?

Hmmm those look wrong.

I tried removing the brackets from the CD changer and fixing them to the phatbox with just the one screw near the front but they make the phatbox stick out too far - glovebox then won't close with DMS cartridge in place.

I need brackets with the flange further toward the front of the phatbox.

they might fit with just one screw so the second hole on the bracket goes on the first hole on the phatnoise

Eddy, how did you secure yours in place if you didn't use the OEM changer brackets?

I'm now veering towards installing it in the boot and regaining some glove box space.

In the Octavia boot install it's fitted to the standard changer brackets but space isn't an issue on that. On the Ibiza it's kinda bodged but stays in position and looks neat enough.

its not a question of them beting edited, more of them played back to back with no gap like the ipod

No the only way you can do it is stitch them together into one big mp3 file. Then you'd lose the track boundaries.

Apart from that the player would need to take advantage of the --nogap option in LAME encoded mp3s, or use Ogg Vorbis files, or use the cue sheet method. Updated firmware required for all these, and it depends if the mfrs can be bothered to support gapless.

More info on gapless playback than you ever thought you wanted to knowhere

Might be out of date if you're right about ipods being able to do it now. Last I heard no ipod could play gapless.

Well as I say, I might be out of date.
So your missus's ipod mini would play 2 tracks that segue together, as a seamless piece of music?

If Apple have finally got round to this fairly obvious feature it's about time.

Anyway bttt, I've had my phatbox in for month or so now and I love it.

The only issue I've found is to do with the music management software and mp3 tags. It seems to only use ID3v1 tags which are obsolete and most players these days use the more flexible ID3v2 tags. So I had to find a tool to tidy up my v1 tags. That's ok I can live with it but some tracks it just won't load at all. Goes through the load process but can't find the tracks afterwards.

Anyone else with a phatbox noticed this?

Just got this back from Phatnoise
Hello Nigel,

Thank you for using the Kenwood Music Keg! The PhatBox only supports
gapless playback with the FLAC format. You will hear a slight pause between
tracks with any other format. Let us know if we may assist you further.

Best regards,

Jennifer
