This engine runs perfectly, crisp, smooth, accelerates cleanly, with the one odd exception of idling constantly at the right revs, but slightly lumpy.

Ive done all the ignition, cleaned throttle body, cleaned idle valve, run expensive cleaner through the fuel and still its lumpy. I also changed the temp sensor which helped, as with everything else overall running but not idle.

Any ideas?

Im thinking either valve lifters, but i have changed oil twice in 7k, using good quality forte oil so im wondering if that should have cleaned it up?

Others are MAF, Oxygen Sensor? EGR? anyone had any similar issues?

sounds like what is wrong with mine, where is the idle control valve?? cleaned my throttle body but still nothing. i have to keep my car idling myself at 1000, i think its because my head gasket is on its way out, hope its either that or the idle controll valve needs setting up with the vag com. i have changed the throttle cable allready but thts only helped with the fact that i can change the rate of my idle so i can set it at like 800 to 1400 etc

no coolant leaks or oil leaks or sign of any steam etc in exhaust, ill keep an eye on that.

the idle sticks at 900, normal. but is lumpy. had same issue on a golf which was single point injection.

i cleaned the idle control valve off the car by soaking it in petrol, it its the same as mine it sits above the valve cover and you can pull it off? ie cylinder type thing. thats on the 2l 8v anyway,.

im going to check the maf tomorrow, although it runs fine otherwise, might give it a clean.

both my abf and 2E 8v felt "lumpy" almost like a very mild road cam. having now experianced much 80s/90s VAG its normal.

Ive checked everything, all hoses etc. The only exception which I will order this week is a rough looking hose that goes into the back of the throttle body, and leads off to somewhere behind the airbox.

Im ordering it this week, if only they made the rubber out of the same material that the code on the rubber was made out of! got the code easilly.

If that doesnt solve it i give up.
