If you get an alloy one it will need to have swirl flaps also they are used to make the air tumble at lower rpm . Looking at the engine from front the hissing and soot would be concentrated on the left side of the inlet manifold . As with any repair sooner is always better than later it could fail on next journey or last forever . If your fitting a new part a replacement plastic inlet will be as good as the alloy one it's only after a 50k+ I think the alloy is better . With reduced pressure I would say a good egr clean would make a fair difference too when it's going to be removed to repair the manifold

Can you get alloy ones with the swirl flaps? Everything I've been reading are people that are having to take their swirl flaps off and then block something up?
But yes the hissing and soot is all on the left hand side of the manifold. I think I'm going to try not to drive my car unless I desperately need to, I can walk to work which is handy.
Just out of interest how would I know the flap did get sucked into my engine? Would that be the end of my engine?

I havnt seen the results of a flap failure on a Leon but going by bmw threads it causes major damage . I personally don't see the benefit of removing the flaps and sealing off the end of the manifold as by the time all that's been done you could have spent as much as a decent replacement inlet .

Yes You can, look on ebay. You can get ones that dont need them blanked off. If I had seen this yesterday I would have offered you one. But I literally gave it away yesterday morning!

Why do dark side sell the bkd manifold without the flaps and say it doesn't affect running, if it affects it?
My brothers Octavia had a sooty engine bay around that area and last week it let go number 4 swirl flap.
He now has a new car.

I'm nearly sure the swirl flaps are only on the pd170 not on the 140 but wouldn't be 100% on that and running a pd170 without flaps may be ok but it be shame to have it done and find out she doesn't run as well maybe some posters here have experience of having done this

Does the alloy one have to be 03G129713H - with the H at the end as there are plenty without it.

Does the H determine whether it has the flaps?
