Occasional whirring noise when starting up

Hi

Bought a second hand 150 FR 5dr Petrol last month, noticed a strange whirring noise from the engine every once in a while when starting the car. Seems to only happen on cold starts. It's sort of a whiny whirring noise, and if I rev the engine it sounds slightly odd as well. However if I turn off the engine and then start it again straight away it will be fine. It's happened around 6 or 7 times in the month and a half I've had the car.

Any ideas what this could be? Think I'll be taking it in to get it looked at but I'm just wondering if anyone's had this before. The car has only done 6000 miles.

Thanks in advance.

Hi mate, It's probably just the secondary air system warming the cat up. I'm not familiar with your engine, but almost all modern petrol cars have it fitted. Perfectly normal, it usually runs for 60 secs or so on a proper cold start.

Edit: It's basically just an electric air pump that puts extra oxygen into the exhaust to get the cat up to working temp faster, so a slight whirring noise would fit the bill

Mine does it every time on start up, cold or hot, it's normal. There is a thread on here with a link to a video. You don't usually hear it in the cabin only when the door is open or you are outside.

I hear it every time inside cabin, not just outside or with opened doors/windows. Maybe I am too sensitive for such suspicious noises :)
My first impression about start up was that... what a hell is happening?!??!!

You know, petrol engines are much faster for starting as diesels (they do not need heating up) - many times I start it faster as my radio turns on :)

It's not sound of the LEDs adjustment.
Their sound is more gentle and can be easily recognized that's the sound of LEDs, you see lights adjusting.
