Problem i have is i need to be certain i,ve got a reliable car and my Seat isnt convincing me, 3 year old car and it already needs its 3rd turbo. If i had a high powered car or my car had been tuned then id understand but it has 105 bhp and no other engine mods, i dont drive like a 17 year old whos in there dads car, i just think its going to be cost efective to keep the car, £1600 for a turbo every 12 months or less isnt my sort of care free motering.

Dont know if many of you will have read this thread, but here is an example of what happens when the turbo blows and drains the oil out of the engine!

"Was driving along a dual carriageway when all of a sudden all power to the accelerator just vanished. Managed to pull up onto a side road where i then realised a dense white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipes. immediately turned the car engine off. Now the the car wont even start.

Any ideas to what this could be.The car has recently been asking for the engine coolant to be topped up more than usual which i found very strange considering the car is only driven locally.

Please help, need some advice
"

Here he gets the car into the garage and they diagnose it for him!

"Well the dealership has just got back to me..!!!..
the verdict is that the Turbo has blown and it has sucked all the oil out of the actual engine. therefore the engine has seized up and locked itself out and cracked all the heads, hence the white smoke....

This is the second time the turbo has failed, the cars warranty has run out and it only has 35,500 miles on the clock with full seat service, only a couple of months ago was warranty work carried out on the turbo now all of a sudden its gone again.

Cost to fix the damage are shocking, put it this way i can buy a new car...!!!....was quoted £10,000!!!
Would your car insurance cover this sort of thing...?????....
Have had the seat garage put a good will form into seat, see what becomes of it
"

Just incase any of you out there werent worried enough!

Try not to have nightmares guys!

Noisy Turbo

My turbo was replaced on Tuesday, only done 29K miles, and the 3 year warranty ends on11th August so I'm glad in a way it went when it did.

I thought the new turbo would have a new warranty period, but the garage told me it is only covered until my original warranty runs out on the 11th because I didn't have to pay for this turbo.

Is that right?

No its not right. All new parts fitted have a minimum statutory years guarantee if they are original parts unless they are wearable items i.e. tyres, brakes etc..So they are filling you full of bull**it and make sure you tell them that you know all about it.
Just because you did not have to pay for an item does not mean it isn't still guaranteed for a full year after fitting it.Also you maybe need to think about taking out an extended warranty to carry on when the original runs out mate especially if your keeping the car for about another year or more. Its only a couple of hundred quid or less in many cases.

So what are we saying guys the turbo should not make a noise?

When I got my windows open I can here the turbo doing its work like a whistle letting you know its spinning?

What would a siren sound really bad and you would know something is wrong?
