New shocks for FR 170...Koni FSD on standard springs

Would recommend FSD's on standard springs. I had FSD's fitted to my FR by JKM over 12 months ago and the ride remains the same as the day after they were fitted. The ride is much smoother than with the standard shocks but still offers excellent handling abilities when you decide to push on !!

I also bought and installed Bluefin last month, what a revelation !! Pick up is much smoother and lower down the rev range, it revs and pulls hard all the way to 5000, previously it would have started to flag at 4000 rpm. At the opposite end of the scale it is much easier to drive at low revs. Before Bluefin I struggled to drive smoothly at car park speeds in 2nd and occasionaly stalled, now it is happy at said speed and will pick up quickly with little throttle input.
As yet have not had any problems with DPF and would advise anyone who is contemplating this upgrade, DO IT !! you may not get a huge HP improvement but you will get a huge driving experience improvement.

Hi folks currently got the same dilemma. Got the FR TDI and it has the 17's on. I want to put 18's on but the ride is shocking at the mo (crashy as hell). I have FSD's/ Eibach Pros on my mk1 and love the ride and handling but reading this thread i think just the FSD's are enough on the mk2. My question is how much will it lower the car (if at all) with just the FSD's as think the ride height is way to much on the mk2!? I want about 35mm lower, 18's and a more comfortable ride (not difficult lol) as reasonably priced as possible. Cheers all

I don't think that changing the shocks will lower the car by much at all, certainly not by the 35mm that you want. You would need to change both if you want to lower by that much and the Koni FSDs are designed to work pretty well with the OEM springs or the Eibach Pro Springs.

ok cheers. Think i will go for the sportline springs as heard good things about them and looking at a few pics on the forum like the ride height better than the pro springs. There are also a few people running them with the FSD's and are happy enough. Anyone interested in trying to sort out a group buy on Sportlines or might still be interested in the Pro's if the price is right?

Yea 50mm on the front and 30mm on the rear. There is a thread about here with pics of a silver one that has just had them fitted (sorry who ever it is but cant be bothered to cancel this reply and check the thread name :( lol) and ride height looks spot on. Comments on the ride being alot less crashy aswell as handling greatly improved so im happy with that :)

Think David @ seremotors has sportlines on standard fr shocks.

I cant get my head around the peeps on here saying the stock FR ride is poor. You guys need to drive an Ibiza FR or cupra to find out what a poor ride is:yes:

My Leon FR has a ride that feels like a Rolls Royce.

Blimey it must be absolutely terrible then as the Leon FR TDI that i have is awful and many agree!!! Think it might be better on the petrol probably due to the less heavy front end. Must be a problem though as the new leons now have a 20% softer spring setup on them. Cheers Toxic i thought Dave had the Pro's aswell and think the car looks so much better with the sportlines drop. Anyone interested in a group buy please let me know. Cheers
