I recently bought my new battery from here:

It's AGM. I used Carista to change the battery serial number.
The poster lives in Cz so that seller should not be their best source of a new battery.

If your car does not have a separated "battery management" controller, then you will find the area to change battery things in Can Gateway, maybe under Long Adaption.

Copied from something I wrote down:-
"19-CAN Gateway _> Long Adaptation -> Channel 4 -> Battery identification
(N) Part number - (11 digits) - kept this the same as the previous battery.
- (V) Vendor code - (3 digits) - in my case VA0 for Varta
- (S) Serial number (10 digits, but leaving out the starting 3 digits of manufacturer)
NNNNNNNNNNN VVV SSSSSSSSSS"

There is probably a later way of doing this in newer cars, but still in Can-Gateway, where you can select each of the parts of info that you need to change, the AGM version of battery might not be listed as "AGM" or at least this is not the version you should select, it is "fleece" that is for normal AGM batteries.

This is probably closer to what you will find in Can-Gateway:-
"
[Select]
[19 - CAN-Gateway]
[Adaptation - 10]

Battery adaptation - Size (this may be something like IDE03256-MAS04490 Battery adaptation - Size)

Select the battery Ah rating from the drop-down menu followed by [Do It!] and confirm [Yes]

Battery adaption – Battery technology (fleece or EFB + many more) IDE03256-MAS06106

Select the battery technology for AGM select "fleece" from the drop-down menu followed by [Do It!] and confirm [Yes]

Battery adaptation - Manufacturer (this may be something like IDE03256-MAS03159 Battery adaptation - Manufacturer)

Select the battery manufacturer from the drop-down menu followed by [Do It!] and confirm [Yes]

Battery adaptation - Serial number (this may be something like IDE03256-IDE00010 Battery adaptation - Serial number)

Type the serial number code from the replacement battery followed by [Do It!] and confirm [Yes]

Providing the value was accepted by the controller the new battery coding is complete.
[Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]"

@SuperV8, as you mentioned an insulated cover, was not a thermal wrap round the battery or a hard plastic case, I’m just asking as I will be swopping from EFB to AGM sometime?

Edit:- I seem to have forgotten to post this reply I made a few days ago!
Its a semi ridged/padded fibre insulated cover. Seem to be available to match the battery size.

Just to make life easier, from what I posted - the battery serial number only needs a single digit changing, which is probably important as most aftermarket batteries do not seem to have a unique serial number. No real need to change the manufacturer unless it is easy to change if changing manufacturer, the technology or chemistry, as it is sometimes called does need to be changed from EFB to "fleece" and not any of the listed AGM options as they are not what any "standard" AGM replacement is.

I had my dying EFB battery replaced with an AGM equivalent a couple of weeks ago. That was at a well respected VAG specialist, and they had no issues fitting - and warranting - a genuine VAG part. And yes, it has a wrap-around blanket, though I've no idea why - it's pretty thin, and over a period of time I can't see it preventing heat soak into the battery. I'd be more inclined to think it was to slow down the cooling of a battery, a cold battery being less efficiant than a warm one. Anyway, it's the new Wooo in cars I guess.

Some VAG cars do get that thermal blanket but with one side folding over as a top or lid to cover the top of the battery, I thought that at least the later Leons or at least the Cupras got that, I'll need to check up on my daughter's May 2019 Leon Cupra, there are also hard plastic covers that get fitted to some cars in some sales areas, AliExpress seems to sell them for peanuts, but maybe not enough room for that in some UK VAG models.

My wife's August 2015 VW Polo has its battery at the front of the engine bay, at one side and it sits across that area, it only gets a blanket round its EFB and I've bought the slightly bigger blanket for when I eventually fit the slightly bigger battery tray and AGM battery. Being in that orientation/location would suit having the blanket with the fold over top/lid cover, that that is not the way it is.
