VW is to charge for red soon think it will be £350 may be Seat and Skoda will follow so be no free colours just another way of getting more money out of you.

Not quite sure how this works legally - to have to pay for paint as an addition to the 'list price' of the car. If i walked into a dealer and requested a car with no paint, they would tell you this isn't possible. Thus the list OTR price is not valid. I thought they had to always offer a free colour to avoid this.

Correct - they can not claim an OTR price if every colour is an extra.

It will change depending on demand and fashion. Flat white paint was available at no extra cost on the Octavia Mk2 vRS when I ordered my Black Magic one. White wasn't even listed as a colour option as there simply was no demand for it at the time. Fast forward a few years and there's a renaissance in white cars now, particularly hot hatches.

Thank guys for the banter and concern - much appreciated!!

Firstly I have been busy sorting out a detailer to do a Gtechniq treatment on the car, so that is nearly organised - deciding whether to go C1 + EXO (5 year guarantee) or Crystal Serum (7 year guarantee!) which is £100 more - anyone have experience of these products and their relative merit or otherwise?

Secondly, you will all recall the saga of originally being quoted a 6 month lead-in time, because I specified the standard titanium finish wheels. Well 6 months actually turned out to be exactly half that, but the early delivery has unfortunately coincided with being on holiday abroad which couldn't be re-scheduled, so I won't actually be picking up the car for another couple of weeks or so, but when I do, I will flood the thread with more photos, I promise, Scouts Honour!

And yes, I can't wait to pick her up, but I also need a holiday - wish the two could have been mixed together mind!

Hi Andy,

I have used a few Gtech products C4 is excellent for black Plastic Trim and the T1 is very good for Tyres and rubber like mud flaps etc.

I did buy some C1 a couple of years ago but could get on with it, but it may have been me rather than the product.

Have seen EXO talked about on www.detailingworld.com. Have a look on there and run a quick search will be lots on there. There is a separated Gtech thread too.

I love detailing so for me I would want something that I can add to after each wash rather than just washing and leaving so would look for something that would give me that option, I think some coatings can be a little sensitive to what you put on top – may be worth giving Gtech a call for info.

My car is currently protected with Blackfire Midnight Sun Wax and I top it up after each wash with Meg Ultra Quik Wax which looks great on Red.

I would ask the garage to store the car under cover to avoid any unwanted Seagull deposits!

Thanks Rob, that's really useful advice as I'm totally new to detailing - I still have a chamois leather and can't believe how much more absorbent and kinder a decent microfibre cloth is - amazing!

Hi Andy, Where in North Yorkshire are you? I get my car detailed every year from a guy that's in Newton Aycliffe.

As I've just bought my cupra, he's applying a product called SiRamik Glasscoat along with a stage 2 correction.

He's a also a big fan of Gtechniq :)

Needed to pop into the dealers down in Hull today to pick up the lead to complete my tow bar wiring.....long story!
In the showroom they had a beautiful Cupra ST in gleaming black, looked absolutely fantastic. If I get a lottery win over the weekend then I'll be straight down there on Monday morning!

Many thanks for the recommendation - I'm in York, so a fair distance away.

Finally picked it up and it's a brilliant car!

So finally picked up the ST Cupra on Saturday and drove it back from Lifestyle Sussex over to Essex on Saturday and then last night back up to Yorkshire, so a nice extended 300 mile plus test drive, given that I've never driven one before!

First impressions, just loved the look of it in red with the panoramic roof. Hopped in and found the standard seats ideal, much nicer bolsters on the cushion than on my previous Audi A3. Also like the control layout, minimalist and everything to hand. I thought I had learnt how to operate the satnav and all the various sub menus, having been on the forum for the past 6 months or so, but no, couldn't even remember how to enter a postcode, though why the system has to be that counter-intuitive is strange.

Service from Josh at Lifestyle has been exemplary and so it was on the day - he is a first class chap to deal with and I would heartily recommend the services of himself and Lifestyle SEAT Brighton.

Right, start her up and she purred into life and I eased her onto the A27, my is there some power there. Yes getting the power down from a stand still needs a little technique, just nurse that throttle pedal a few mm initially, then gradually add more. Mid range acceleration is truly mesmerising - it goes like the proverbial clappers - 30 to 70 mph - whoosh!!!!! Overtaking is totally effortless.

Use of the ACC on the motorway and through 50mph roadworks is fantastic, how clever is that - just love it!

Quality-wise, the car seems really solid and not a rattle to be heard - doors thunk shut nicely and I am really happy, as I was really concerned with this aspect given all the tales of doom and gloom on the Forum.

Navigation High is OK, nothing particular to write home about and doesn't seem that much of an advance on the 7 year old Audi system I had previously, but early days I guess. I like having my mobile's text messages come up on the screen. whilst the phone is out of sight plugged into the USB socket in the glovebox - you can even get the system to read the texts out to you, so you can keep your eyes on the road!

SEAT Sound System seems OK and on a par with the BOSE system I had in the old Audi.

I am very pleased with the suspension set-up and in comfort mode it's a really nice compromise, in fact I'm amazed how well the car rides on 19" ultra low profiles - a total revelation to the unrefined bumpy ride on 18" wheels in the Audi A3 S-Line, so great work by SEAT here!

Anyway early days and so much to discover. The car is being detailed on Wednesday - here are some early shots of the car from Saturday - B pillars still have PDI stickers on to protect the gloss black trim as do the stainless steel tread plates on front doors and boot - does anyone know if rear matching tread plates are available, the stealer didn't know?

Anyway cheers to all for now and will post more photos once the car has been detailed - covered in flies at the moment!

Nicest colour I've seen on the Cupra ST, looks stunning and I'm sure the photographs don't do it justice. It's gonna look even better after a full detail. Can't wait to see some more pics.

Hope you enjoy your new car.
