Hey all,

The tin foil is there to repel heat from the air feed to the engine - colder air = more oxygen density = more power (or so the theory goes..)

Thanks for the comments, I agree it does look cleaner and i'm amazed that for a car thats been basically a track day toy for the past few years its in such good shape body-wise - I mean, there are like no dents anywhere!

Keep 'em coming guys, thank you :)

Update on Ibiza Cupra Track car

Hey all,

Its been a while since i've done an update. Its all been go-go-go though as the 'Green Goddess' as she has now been named finally did her first track day!

Last week me and my dad took part in the Prescott Hill climb Driver's School where you learn about the best way to drive the circuit.

The car went perfectly, not a single problem, rattle, nothing! On the way there I even managed to get 40.3mpg over 100 miles!!! The track consumption was a bit higher (12.7mpg!) but the car felt very happy doing this kind of thing and she was also clearly enjoying her 99RON fuel that i'm now using.

Driving impressions;
The car is very well set-up for this type of event - the suspension isn't too firm but the coilovers, strut braces and 6-point cage in combination with the Neuspeed anti-roll bars front and back means that the car's turn-in is super-assured and it feels completely planted. The dry weather grip was so-so which led to me tweaking tyres pressures - all was fantastic after that. Wet weather grip in particular was amazing when it rained later in the day. The brakes were great and this was the first change I had had to hear the car from the outside when my dad was driving - it sounds awesom but not too loud & brash - the perfect balance in my opinion.

I still cannot believe how well sorted this car is - everything does what it should and there are no signs of tiredness or wear anywhere. I am truly struggling to thing of a better first track day car and she got compliments wherever she went all of that day, even in the company of verious Caterhams and 911's..

I've attached some pictures below, any comments welcome! :)

Hey all,

Its been aaages since i've been on here, apologies.

Anyway, the SEAT's been quite busy since I last posted. Two month ago me and Dan (The geeze a co-own the car car) went to our first track day @ Rockingham. Anyway, all went fine - except for the car totally stopping @ 9.30am after the first 3/4 of the first lap of the day - Dooooooh!

Turns out some wiring to the crank sensor had chaffed which caused a main relay to pop or something which meant it was game-over and being towed home at the end of the day to my mechanic mate Andy to look at.

All was not lost though as my dad only lives 20 miles from the circuit so me and Dan could go back in his car and borrow one of my dad's 2 cars. Now, you would all think that I would have taken the 968 CS, yeah? Well, eerrrr, no; It was a Sunday so I couldn't get track insurance sorted so I took his black Octavia VRS. I pumped up the tyres and promised not to turn off the ESP when on-track. It was great and we managed to get a whole afternoon of track-thrashing in and the car was awesom - very stable, a lot of fun and very quick on the straights (though not quite as quick as the Ibiza..)

So, after the issues of Rockingham I was a bit down about the SEAT. It turned out to be a very quick and cheap fix though (New crank sensor, a few hours labour) so now she rides again.

Track day number 2 happended last weekend @ Donnington. This was MUCH better... The track was just plain awesom and the car even better! The day was packed with cars (A wicked-sounding Merc E63 being a highlight) so we had top be quite careful but both of us and the car got faster and faster all day. The car is super-sorted, the suspension set up just right, the engine pulling like a train and sounding AMAZING and the brakes were stunning. Donnington really made me realise how lucky we were to find this car and how well it has been prepared and looked after. Down the Crainer (spellinng?) Curves was particularly impressive, the car feeling really flat, level and planted like no normal road car could have done, no doubt helped by the rear spoiler pushing the back down..

Only drama of the day was the getting pulled in to the pits for being too noisey (The car, not me screaming...) - The limit there was 98 decibels but off the limiter on the main straight in 3rd she was making 99.2. We were told that if we were over the limited again we'd be thrown off the track for the day, oops! Solution was to change-up at 6k rpm, which is fine as the power-band is mainly spent by then.

After the day had finished we had managed to average 15.8mpg and not torched the tyres and brakes too much. We saw some big accidents that day but luckly came off un-scathed ourselves. I'm delighted how well the car performed, only an occasional mild rattle from the exhaust causing any distraction.

The next day out is next Sunday @ Goodwood - I just hope she's quiet enough...

Any comments welcome.

Hey all,

Again, long time no type but a lot has been going on with the SEAT.

It was MOT time in April so off it went to my local testing centre (Below)

Only thing that caused an issue were the strut-top mounts which were worn and causing excessive play. So, off she went to TT1, a fitting centre I use and rate in Hornsey, North London.

The lads knew exactly what they were doing and had the job done using genuine parts within 45mins. It was a flurry of activity (See below).

So back to the MOT centre and job's a gudden - woohoo! :)

All MOT'd again for this summers track day activities, all I need to do now is get the camber adjusted after the strut mount swappage. Another wash and wax is also on the cards..

All comments welcome guys!

Hello everyone,

Its been a busy day for the Ibiza in preparation for its first track day in a while @ Rockingham next Saturday.

I went to a suspension specialist in Woking to get the camber and toe checked and adjusted. While I was there I had the tyres swapped around to even out the wear (though they seems to be holding out exceptionally well) and also got them filled with nitrogen - this stuff is great, far more stable than normal air. It shuld mean the handling stays far more consistant during the track day..

Can't wait for next week now!!

Any comments welcome :)
