Right, I haven't really been doing much to the car recently that justifies any major updates, but here's a few bits that have been sorted.

With a lot of help from Ben, before the new year we fitted a Mk2 heater box back in, so I can lose the Mk3 "TV screen" style heather controls and just have the 3 standard dials back. It was a bit of a job, as the dash had to come out, along with the front half of the roll cage. I've also plumbed my volt gauge back in as it was pointless it sitting there doing nothing. I'm going to finish modifying the Mk3 radio facia to house my gauges, and I'll also buy an oil pressure gauge at some point too.

Last week, we stripped back half of the engine loom as it was having earthing issues, we thought it was all fixed, but on test drive, it is still hesitating under full throttle. We're going to the workshop again this weekend to take another look, and hopefully will get it sorted before my track day at Brands Hatch on the 26th of this month.

I've decided that I'm no longer going the hybrid route, just down to cost and saving for a house. Just before Christmas I managed to get hold of these:

Two K03s turbos. One is damaged (left in the picture, you can see it's missing blades, but the other is a runner. I'll be sending it off to get it checked before it gets fitted, but then I'll be taking it to Jabba to get a custom map as I was pleased with the one I had before.

The only other plans I have for the future is possibly an oil cooler (depending what the temps are reading on track at the end of the month), relocating the battery to the boot (had to fit a new one as the cold weather killed mine), fitting a new catch tank that's a bit easier to clean out, and eventually I'd like to flock the dash.

Cheers Craig. The dials actually bolt straight in, and the heather box is the same too. The only thing that will be difficult is making them look nice with the Mk3 facia, but I'm sure there's a way.

I haven't fitted it yet. It probably won't get done for a few months yet as I want to get the turbo on first.

Nice one Martin, is that a Javelin track day at Brands? Been there the past two years in the Cupra but unlikely to make this one. Have fun out there

Sounds like you've been busy. I've finally managed to get the golf running as it should. Loads of tidy up jobs to do then off for a map.

We got a few hours in the workshop today so I managed to get a few snaps of some bits of the Ibiza.

Here's how the dash is with the Mk2 heater box and dials fitted in. The boost, oil temp and volt gauges are bolted into a DIN holder to stop them from floating all over the place.

I haven't done much to the facia still, but I've ordered another 3 gauge DIN holder today, so I can get it fiberglassed in, along with the other one so I have the potential to run 6 gauges.

I also fitted some red LED's to the gauges I already have, but when I drove it home, I discovered they don't light it up enough to actually read them!

I've had an earthing problem for a while, and fingers crossed, Ben fixed it today as the car drove so much better on the way home.

Just a few other shots:

Thanks, Phil. It's very tight! I was looking for a quick release for the steering wheel but I couldn't find one I liked. Everything is set up perfectly for how I like it now, and I don't really want to go messing around with it. Luckily, the cage actually makes it easier to get out as you can hold on to it.

Fingers crossed on the earthing side mate, hopefully that's the end of it

Still think yours looks better inside than mine, proper track slag now :)

I hope so mate. I'll take it out for a longer drive one evening this week and see what happens.

I think yours looks, and has always looked, a lot more finished than mine on the inside (and the outside for that matter!).

wow those seats look amazing... i wish i could afford to spend that on a pair of seats but i just cant justify it :( dayummm

The only reason I did it is because I got good money back on the old Recaro's. Being that this is no longer my daily, I thought it was about time to get some proper seats in it!

Another small update:

After a bit more inspecting of the K03s turbo's I purchased, I found that the one I thought was okay had some cracks in the exhaust housing. After a bit of thinking, I decided that I would use the one with the damaged cold-side to send off in exchange of a reconditioned unit. The other (that I had originally planned to get checked and bolt on) I have since sold on. So on Monday I paid for the new turbo, and Tuesday it arrived:

I'm pretty sure the other turbo would have been fine, but seeing as this is now the last turbo that I want to fit, I thought it'd be better to get one that I know is perfect.

Track day on the 26th, then hopefully it'll be turbo fitting at some point next month, then a trip to Jabba for mapping.

I think that'll be they plan, Ben. It's going to need an oil change after Brands anyway, so I think I'll hold out on that, then get a cooler sorted, then fit it all at the same time. If you can speak to John about welding up the sump once he's back from holiday that would be awesome. The only other problem is that the exhaust manifold may have to come off when fitting the turbo as ideally, I'd like to replace the turbo bolts for some better ones, and put some Nord Lock washers on there at the same time.
