Can't believe I have only just stumbled across this RR thread. This is probably the nicest LCR I have ever seen. I think the main reason for me liking it so much is that this is a perfect example of how mod whilst keeping the OEM style. :D

Hi, I read your thread about a month ago, and what a fantastic read :) lots of inspiration for a fellow onvi yellow lcr owner myself.
I've painted my engine cover, but used a vht red paint, however the lacquer I used burnt some areas and has caused minute imperfections all over.
I have searched and searched for something that would be good to use but have not come across anything, could you point me in the right direction?
The only solution I have is to use vht red, and use the same brand clear paint, but don't know if this would work? Any help would be gratefully appreciated!

Fair play to you if you want to take it off the road for a while mate :)

This will be a museum example one day!

It's hard work keeping a project going with a new arrival. My MKII Golf project stalled and died when my daughter was born. You've made a good choice, your cars to good to let it go.

Would be very happy to tuck this away in a garage for a while and tinker with it when i had the time.
I think it's a lovely car with all the work and time you've put into it,Just a shame you won't be updating your thread as much as i always look forward to seeing how it's coming along.

I think if its garaged you will do more as there is no need to drive it... If that makes sense - things will get cleaned that don't usually get touched etc.

I can see the thread turning into - I unbolted this from underneath last night and decided to paint it.

What's in the air ATM???

Thanks all for the kind words...

Well, there seems to be something in the air at the moment doesn't there... Some very well liked members appear to be turning to new projects and letting their cars go via selling or breaking. It's quite a strange time really; as a forum member and as a Seat owner. I've met some really great people through owing cars, and there's a few who I would like to catch up with from here in time, and cars come and go...

I'm on holiday in Cornwall with my wife and our son at the moment and it's been great. But it gives you time to dump the work stuff and think about life and take stock. I started off the holiday 10 days ago thinking the car should go to a new owner who could enjoy it more than I have time for at the moment... But I've had the car for nearly 9 years now and it feels like owing a smelly old blind dog. It's not a 'black and white' decision. The car has never owed me any money as I was able to buy it outright, so £3k from a sale doesn't have the same incentive as if I had money tied up in the car and wanted to buy another from the profits of the sale. We recently bought a VW Passat CC and it's perfectly grown up, comfortable and gives you that luxury(ish) feel.

I don't seem to drive the car anymore through lack of time and nor do i have the time to meaningfully do anything to the car.... With that in mind :)shrug:) the days following, I sourced all the parts to do a 4wd conversion :)shrug:) a guy is selling an S3 minus the BAM engine near to me for £850, but he was honest and told me to just buy an S3... Does he have a point? My thinking has been, beyond the planned body work, to rebuild the engine with updated everything and a bigger turbo, go 4WD and have a quick road car that could keep me happy. The reality is that I have a young family, a busy job and an ambition to have a nice house at the end of it all so I could never (not within the next teen years ) just have money around to buy a Porsche 911 or something of that true performance club.

It's a tough call. I'd miss the car like hell. I don't have the time or desire to break the car, and it'd be a kick in the slats if I saw the car elsewhere. My wife thinks I'd be miserable without a project, even if I have very little time for it... She's probably right! Doing as much as I could myself, I reckon I could achieve something close for around £10k. I think it's quite common for folks to own a car for an age and it never be quite finished?? this was confirmed when I read through this months PVW and the guy of the main feature had owned his car since 1988!

Long and short of it is I don't know what do? I feel like I want to just get on and build it but being a Dad for the first time has really drawn me away from the car right now, and I fear that should I start stripping the car, it would never be road worthy again...

I'm gonna continue to think things through. I guess this is the life of the hobby and owning a car and I'm sure many can relate. At least it's in the garage and not going anywhere. Good luck to all those moving on.

James :)

Jesus there is something in the air....

I'm the same I'm miserable without a project I got rid of my 205 before I got married as the bottom end went and decided not to repair it before the wedding and broke it! BIG MISTAKE
I spent the next few years wishing for a project but mileage and circumstance stopped that from happening until the LCR

A young new family doesn't leave much time as you don't want to miss anything (I know it was for me) but as they get older I know my little boy (know 3-1/2) loves it he bri vs his little box of tools and 'helps'

If the car doesn't owe you anything and you don't need the money enjoy the family, leave it be and when you've made the 100% decision go back to it.

Shame if you do let it go because its a stunning example and would love to see it in person especially with the bodywork plans you have/had.

If it was me I'd do the bodywork add abit more power maybe stage 2? And enjoy!

You're right, I know. I think part of the problem is I feel I've done as much as I can to it without fully committing to 'all out' and it feels pretty goalless at present. Seeing others on the forums move forwards only makes me want to forward with mine. The factor is time ultimately, and I know I'd regret selling, like so many others have done before me. Actual plans, one way or another, are needed.

I think this feeling has come from a few of the more involved and flagship builds being broken or canned
It makes everyone stop throwing money at it as others have recommended parts or given ideas and sit back and review their plans and take another look at 'is it really worth it'
I've had my moment of this just over a year ago as I was very close to just sacking it and buying an RS4, however there weren't as many breaking then and more people giving positive comments which kept me with it
I wouldn't worry about time frames too much, I started on my Quattro conversion over 18 months ago and im no where near ready to cut the floor pan out yet
Best advice is go big or go home, if youre teetering on the edge and not knowing what to do the chances are you wont have the enthusiasm to go all out BT, etc. Leaving you the option of selling up now or keeping as is and not modding much more but enjoying what you currently have
I doubt i'll ever sell this now, ive had it over 6 years now, its almost become a family member so i'm content to fire cash into it

Hi James. Everyone has there reasons for moving on, be it family, want of new project, persistent problems etc but if as you say it doesn't owe you and you still enjoy it, then my advice would be to keep it and revisit it now and then. Mine is no where near complete or close to where I want it to be, but as you can appreciate you have to prioritise with a young family. If truth be told, I lost my licence due to excessive speeding which was considered dangerous driving so got a fairly hefty ban, but it has stopped my spending sooo much on it (for now:p), which diverted needed funds to childcare etc. It is so painful seeing it just sat next to my house, but when I look at it from behind, in front, and whilst it looks lonely it reminds me that there is still no other hot hatch car on the road today that looks as good as my Leon Cupra R...and I can totally get why people want to convert to 4x4. Despite it being incomplete and me having no licence, I will not sell or break it but look forward to next year.
Chris

Never thought you would message this James! Kids open your eyes to loads of things don't they.

In all honesty either keep it as it is and just a MINT OEM example ready to be pulled out the garage when they are few and far between or sell up and get something that is obviously niggling at you.

Forgive me mate, can't be bothered to look back through your thread, have you ever had this mapped? If not, do it! The performance increase will make you happier when deciding what to do.

4wd is a big project and unfortunately something I'd not be able to do, however if you've got the skill and commitment give it some serious thought before selling up, there's so much awesome work gone into this you would really have to vet the new owner ;)

Mine nearly went earlier in the year, before the engine was rebuilt as I really fancied an edition 30.

Whatever you decide mate, good luck with it but make sure you don't regret anything :)
