Status 20 should be a confirmed build week so he should be able to tell more precisely now when it arrives.

The dealer didn't give me a build date but just said its in production, surely it can't be in production already when I was expecting to have to wait for it until the end of next month? As far as I'm aware once a car is being built its quite a quick turn around to have the car at the dealership

Well mine for example got manufactured 1 month earlier so there is a chance :)
Production should only take couple of days, mine was finished on 17th and got to the dealership around 27th.

I'm starting to get a touch of hope now.... If I get it a whole month early

@shadak: Just wondering, do you manage to produce this crackling sound you can hear in this video?

4SGzuURoips?t=4m (cannot post links yet, go to Youtube and paste this id + timestamp into the url)

I tried everything, but I haven't heard it yet...

Mine is a 290 5D. In the video is an SC.

Man it took me almost a week to figure it out! I posted it in the exhaust thread.
Have you got a DSG? You need to have the SHIFTING in S. It doesnt matter if you are in comfort, sport of cupra, the shifting mode is important. As long as you flick to S, you can then use manual mode and still do the cracks. Doesnt work in D/E unfortunately.

I can do it all the time now its amazing and so loud sometimes :)

Yes, I have DSG. But I don't manage to get that sound, even in S I don't. Anyway, when switching to manual mode, S, D or E is not relevant anyway, hm? Manual mode is it's own mode.

Manual actually also depends on the preceding setup. So you put it in S, then manual, you should get the pops. If you go to D, then manual, you dont get them.

If you have a 290 DSG it must be there, open your rear window, drive around a block of houses or a wall. Fligh it to S, then manual, use something lower like 2nd gear, go to 4,5k rpm and let it go down to 2,5k on its own. Do it couple of times and you should start hearing the burble and popping and cracking afterwards.

Okay, got it now. ;-) It's not always there and it's not that loud from inside even with open rear windows. Thanks again for the instructions.

It does get more pronounced as the engine runs in. I'm on nearly 2k miles now and the engine is a lot freer and the exhaust pops and burbles are more pronounced. Park up and stand outside and press the throttle, you will hear it! The car is quick from the factory but it gets better after you've put on a few thousand miles. It's difficult to hear whilst in the car as the sound actuator drowns it out when in sport or cupra setting.

The volume is a bit random but I always hear couple of loud cracks.
Btw when you rev your engine stationary, even with your door open the exahust note is barely audible. Try asking someone to rev and go to the back of the car :)

The cracks are super loud from the outside when you drive through town.

Also, you won't hear much when the exhaust system is cold. When engine is run in you will notice a big difference in sound. Give it a few thousand miles and the car is a different beast. The mpg is still crap but it's worth it for the entertainment this car provides and I do over 20k per year. Mine is manual by the way so cannot compare to the DSG which seems to make a lot of comedic farting sounds on upchange from what I've seen on videos???

I only have 1500km on the clock atm and its true that I can feel a bit more power especially when overtaking. Yes DSG when you upshift under load at high revs makes a fire spitting fart sound, from the cockpit (yes Im role playing a jet pilot when driving) you hear it as a fart but from the outside it sounds really good and loud.

One of the best things in this car I find is ironically a comfort profile! Driving in Prague compared to other capitals is quite good traffic wise and you can find some open roads but the road quality isnt the best at a lot of places. Man the DCC in comfort makes the drive so smooth I couldnt believe it. So a lot of times I find myself using the nice and quiet comfort profile and some times just flick the DSG to S to wreak havoc in the streets :)
