You say a winning nosie, make sure you don't have a power street fluid leak. I had a cracked steering rack and power steering fluid was leaking out, and the winning noise was infact the power steering pump as it didn't have any fluid in!

yup big ol' thread about this very recently. seems like alot of people have this issue and opinions are that either... a: really not an issue/ normal .b: power steering pump is on its way out. most people suggested that once sound started it was up to and over 12 months before it blew. have a butchers

i think halfords do sell power steering fluid. im not loosing any fluid so i reckon it could be the pump, but its been like it since i got the car, well i noticed it about a month after i got it, it was under warranty then and i sent it in, thats when they said it was normal. ive had it 19months now and its just starting to get alittle louder. ill look alittle deeper into it and see what i find, cheers ppl.

Best off tracing the lines from the pump to the rack. Or park on a dry bit, put cloths down under your car and play with the steering a bit to see if you can get drips to show on the cloths

There is a pipe over the gear box that has gone porous on mine. May be worth taking a look at this.

Matt.
My one is leaking at the join between the flex part (at the fire wall side of the gear box) and the hard pipe to the steering rack.
I'm just waiting on a price for this just now but fear it to be about £100+

With a level drop like that I would say it could be a loose connection.
But also loosing that much fluid you will easily find where its leaking with cloths below your car. You will have to take off the under tray though as this will confuse the actual location unless at the rack

Steering Fluid pumping out of track rod end!

Afternoon all,

Well Monday is here and to prove it, I think my steering rack has blown it's seals!

The car was fine yesterday but this morning the steering felt heavy. When I inspected under the vehicle sure enough a small red puddle was forming. I have taken the car into the garage and they have advised that it looks like the rack has blown it's seals and that it's just bad luck. To be fair I have only had a few problems with the Seat Leon Cupra but they have been significant and so I'm now seriously considering selling it as I don't want to spend fortunes maintaining the vehicle!

I have had a constant problem that according to the read out, is an intermittent problem whereas my engine is overheating, not a lot, only a little above the 90-degree temp dial, but this is apparently now NOT my temp sensor (replaced 3 times at 30 squids each) but now the water pump. Apparently the impeller is made of plastic and the housing metal, and so the plastic wears and stops pumping water around the engine efficiently.

I had the cam belt and the water pump changed 6 months ago and they have since had the vehicle back and denied anything is wrong with the water pump. (small claims court hearing due in....)

So what should be a interim service 6 months after my major is now another full service including ANOTHER water pump and cam belt (not recommended that they are re-tensioned?) + the sterring rack whcih means the garage needs to charge all on all 5hrs labour plus bloody parts.

Anyone else had these problems? What costs were induced as a result?
