Mayo on dipstick & in oil filler neck/on cap ( CDLA engine )

As per title I'm seeing quite a lot (well what looks to me like a lot anyway!) of the creamy/brown looking mayo in the filler neck/ under the engine oil cap & also a small amount on the dipstick too!

I'm only doing about 4/5 miles (each way) to work and back mostly so obviously the oil will never be getting upto temp properly as the water/ engine temp struggles to get to temp in the time it takes me to get to work (& i know oil can take a good 10/15 mins+ extra to reach temp.

I've already read a few threads that do seem to show that its generally a case of very short journeys meaning the engine never gets properly warm and iirc this problem only seems to have reared its head since the service (which was done last November) but also being. Winter time'ish the temps have been low as well ( that's me thinking/ hoping its NOT a buggered head gasket or similar!).

Are these engines generally VERY solid and HGF is rare!?!?, or is it a possibility!?? It's more the amount of mayo that's bothering me more than anything, & the fact I cleaned it all out a couple if weeks ago - but it's all come back again!!!

Side note - the engine doesn't appear to be using coolant ( coolant looks clean) and it isn't chewing oil either isn't smoking excessively as far as u can tell!, hopefully it IS just short journeys/ colder weather, but what do you guys say ( hopefully these photos will upload via my phone!)

Just round the corner.
I'd take it take it for a good run, atleast 1/2 hour (longer the better). This should hopefully get rid of the moisture in the oil. With it not loosing coolant, it should be ok (but don't hold me to that).

My Mrs does about 2 miles each way to work 5 days a week in a TSi Leon no residue like this.
See an expert is what I would do.Especially if the oil is fully synthectic.

Looked at pic again that oil looks Fkd.Condensation on the cap possibly but the dip stick covered in emulsified oil is not a good look.

I agree that mayo on the dipstick isn't a good sign and also how quickly it's built up again!!

The oil is only supposed to be prob 3 months old as well and yes it does look filthy!!

I got the same situation, except no mayo on dipstick and 60k on the clock.
BUT- after cleaning out mayo and longer trips, theres no mayo at all.

Just been and had another look and the mayo on the dipstick is barely there at all!, the picture makes it look like its coated, but there's only really any on that small pip above the actual main dipping part so actually there's practically naff all on the dipstick - it really is a tiny amount.

Piccie does make it look like its coated bit it's not, but there's quite a bit in the filler neck!!

That's normal if arent losein coolant and if u don't use it for long trips its just condensation due to engine not getting hot for long enought to remove the condensation wipe it off take it for a good hard blast for about half an hour to an hour on a good fast road.

But if ur only doing short trips it will keep coming back I wouldn't worry to much

Just wiped it all out as best as I can and I will take it for a blast somewhere tonight and I think I'll have to change my habits a bit and let it sit there n warm a little in the morning before setting off and go the longer way home at night to let it get hotter! If that don't cure it it'll be getting booked In for a suspected HGF!!

Just looked at the coolant and that's as clean as a whistle- absolutely pristine ( as it should be)

must be real bad pictures plus i think the dipstick must have changed over the years as i thought it was caked in mayo until i just enlarged it.

im guessing the Mayo part is the little white spec at the top of the middle niple about 6" from bottom of dipstick??

Yeah that's it, just a small spec on that wee nipple like you say, the rest of the dipstick (measuring section if you like) is Free of the mayo gunk!

Photos were taken on my mobile and I did them in a smaller file size as I wasn't sure they'd upload if I did them max size!

Just been a damn good run (prob 50+ miles) nothing feels untoward in any way pulls strongly & cleanly - never missed a beat, no steam/smoke.

Not much i can do really about my morning run other than sit & warm the engine a little before setting off, but i can add a few extra miles onto the home journey which should hopefully help matters & hopefully the ambient temps will start picking up soon anyway which will also help (& i can go fishing without freezing my ass off;))

Has made me think about maybe fitting an oil tmep gauge of some sort - Anyone ever done that before!?? Does the ECU monitor oil temps at all do we know???

Basically it's caused by short trips... and now it has "mayo" it should be flushed out with new oil...

It needs a good long run for it to clear but other than it's fine, It happens to all TFSI Engines regardless of what code you have.

yeah i must admit it has crossed my mind to get an oil service done, maybe an engine flush too so it's spick n span.

How much does the Leon hold oil wise if i wanted to do a full oil n filter swap myself!???

Then again i spose it depends how much my dealer would charge for an oil & filter swap - if it's cheap enough i might just let them do it save me the hassle.

Just surprised it suffers quite so badly - can't recall this on any of my other cars!?
