Main radiator fan comes on at cold startup and is on until the car gets up to temp?

Hi all,

Last few times i have started the car from cold, the main radiator fan is on solid until the car gets up to temperature. Once this is reached it responds and acts as normal.

Could this be the fan switch on the radiator, anyone else had similar experiences?

Thanks

Just the main fan? What about the second fan, does it ever come on? In a properly working car both fans should come on and go off together.

Do you have the air conditioning compressor switched on? If so you'd expect the fans to come on.

Hi both thanks for the reply,

Sorry when i say main fan i mean the higher speed from both fans.

Air con works fine, if i turn it on both fans come on, on the slower mode, and go off OK if turned off.

without Air con engine heats up and both fans come on on slower speed, and when car heats up further both fans kick into second speed.

Done Diag test, no faults in ECU!

Any other thoughts?

Hi all,

Fixed, was the thermoswitch buggered,

Something to remember i think is even though it can fail on, i.e. ignition on fans come on etc as above, once the switch has some heated water on it, it can start working again and acts as normal when the car is up to temp and running etc.
