Just wondering guys, is there anything stopping me from cutting 1 - 2" off my gearstick, then re-threading it with a thread cutter?... I just find it a bit tall that's all...it's just an aesthetic preference :p

*I have done a little search, nothing came up under Mk2 etc*

:)

Think that allen key is to adjust it's sitting position, and adjust the plastic crown around it, where it hits against the other white plastic stopper, preventing it from hitting the right side, and preventing it from going into reverse on the left side. It's to do with that I think? Doesn't seem to come out when you loosen that.

Oh dear! ha. Ok I'll bare that in mind! I think mine's tube you know? Not a solid "rod" as it were (don't know if you meant that?)

thats so spooky, i was thinking the same thing today, ive had a look for short shift kits but cant find anything. i took the shifter out of my mk2 mr2 and put a shorter one in, only took about an hour or so.

while on the subject, do you know if its possible to change the gear linkage bushes easily? might tighten things up a little...

well mine went rreally slack and you can tighten them by loosenin the nut they are attatched to on the gear selector rod but is a pain because it can put your gears out of line :( so use a ruler mark where it was so if you do to much you can put it back but if not sounds like you might need new ones lik i did at 75 a piece :(

Well, I've just been out there now, and managed to cut 2" off the gear shaft. Wasn't too bad - a hacksaw went through it pretty well, took all of 5 mins to do it. Should be getting my GTi gearnkob tomorrow, stick it on and see how it looks. Looks nice with the standard one atm, much shorter anyway! :p

Will post a quick photo if anyone would like to see it :)

I'll take a pic of it with the GTi knob on it then :)... Probably tomorrow, if not - it'll be Saturday or a Monday, (as I don't ACTUALLY have it yet :p)
