Passengers side was more of a problem as theres less space - we just wedged the ballast to the side of body panel next to battery as can be seen:-

Just looking at that, on mine the previous owner has covered that hole behind where the lamp (but infront of the battery cover) is with a bit of plastic and secured with duck tape, are they meant to be left open like in this pic ?

wish i could of done that but with a 104mm feed i had to do other will show peeps at weekend

where u mount urs rob? i cable tied mine under my 104mm air feed to some metal work (not the feed lol)

if you look at pic above i have removed my standard cold air feed and bend the hid bracket into an L shape and screwed into the white plastic lugs that the original cold air feed screwed into

I got mine in the tray actually within the lamp housing (pic's to follow as i'm on nights).

There was space for 2x ballasts, & I just put a couple of spot's of silicone on the bottom of the ballasts to stop them sliding about.

The drivers side is a whole other story, as there is no tray on that side, so just did the same as RobM in his How To futher up this thread.

How would attaching a HID kit affect your warranty. ? was looking at doing either bulb replacement, or HID upgrade, but my car (i believe) is still under warranty. presumably it would invalidate, unless i removed before going back to SEAT....

It wouldn't affect it at all for most things. The only time you'd have a problem is if you took your car in for warranty repairs on the headlights.

Reworking an Angel

thank god for this sticky... i must get a pm AT LEAST once a week regarding my angel eye projectors and HID!


can i add... if you really love the look of the angel eye projector headlamps then IMHO they are utter crap at lighting up the road with normal halogen bulbs... they need HID in all honesty!


but in order to fit the H7 HID bulbs you need to completely take the head lamps apart (the projector/angel eyes head lamps that is!) and drill the bulb holder/hole bigger so the fatter HID bulbs can fit into place!


this is a lot of hassle and once done you then have to put it back together and reseal!

Yes I went down the Angel Eye route 2 years ago, as one of my OEM units had a crack in it.
I wasn't really after the "eye" effect, but liked the look of the projector lens.

I now have a decision to make, as the outer plastic lens on the right hand unit has yellowed slightly.
I can opt for another set of Angel Eyes, or replace them with a new set of OEM's. But with a price of £135 each (and I would need 2 new ones), they are about £70 - £80 more expensive than new Angel Eyes.

Which brings me to the question of adding an HID kit.
Is there really no way of fitting a pair of HID's to the Angel Eye's without having to take the headlight units apart for modification?
I really can't be bothered (or brave enough) to dismantle a new headlamp unit for this purpose.
Can you not widen the bulb holder\hole without dismantling the whole lot?

No I was sceptical at first, but J@mes and Rob were quite right ... there is just no way to do this without splitting the lights to bits.

I'm not quite sure where the problem lies. Clearly there is one, but were you enlarging the back end of the bulb 'entrance'? The fact that you had to take the lens off, sounds like a modification within the front end.

Yours certainly look great, but I'm thinking of OEM's now if I go down the HID route. Shame, cos I really like the projectors.

Yes that's the problem, the HID bulb is just too fat to fit in the metal aperture of the bulb holder so you have to dremmel it out. Only way to do that without filling the light and casing full of metal filings is to take them to bits. I LOVE the look of the projectors and angel eyes but they only work with HID. Nice to have something that not many others have

Well just to thow a big spanner in the works!

I have spoken to a helpful guy called Gary at Rimstyle (www.rimstyle.com) a company who sell both "Ultra" Angel Eyes units and HID kits, and they contacted Ultra on my behalf to ask if any mods were required on there own particular units for the HID conversion.

Ultra say you need to use a 12mm drill bit to enlarge the hole for the HID bulb, but say removal of the outer lens will not be necessary.
I know UncleFester and James have painstakingly done the mod for this, so now I'm still unsure!!

There is a difference in pricing for the HID kits and Angel Eyes units sold here however, compared to a lot of equipment elsewhere.
HID kit £165
Angel Eyes £185


I notice though that rimstyle only offer 8000k HID's. I'd much rather go for 4300k or 5000k - 6000k

I've had a chat with www.hids4u.co.uk. A friendly bunch who's site explains in detail about their products. They recommend either 5000k or 6000k max.
But they are asking £210.00 for HID kit.

THE LAMPS MUST BE TAKEN 110% APART to fit HID as otherwise the tiny minute drill bits will go inside the headlamp! and also the last thing you want to do is slip through and touch the actual projector with the drill bit! so its a deffo must dismantling the headlamp!

Yup agreed, there's NO way to avoid filling the unit with bits of metal otherwise, I asked James the exact same question.

They provide the right voltage to the lights. They come in the kit with the HID bulbs, wiring and everything else you need... it's all a part of the same kit. You need two as each bulb needs one each.

I like less blue and more yellow.
