yea, the leon lighter isn't in the most convinient place for one of them! at the moment i'm using a kenwood HU with mp3/usb/ipod/bluetooth etc which costs around £200. it will be on the for sale section on here at some point when i get my dvd/sat nav one back from repair! if you want first refusal when its time to sell let me know:)

I've always wanted to record an my own bogus news flash

It would say something along the line of:
"We interrupt this programme as we have just recieved word that the middle east has set off a nuclear missile and it is heading for britain"

Then when i'm stopped at busy traffic lights on my way to work, start transmitting it on the radio one frequency and watch the faces of people around me

:ban:

And then we will never see you again as you will get whisked away under the anit-terrorism act and never seen again...

Thanks for the offer Danny, sounds good but I think I'm gonna stick with the regular unit for now; might get an iTrip too or wait in the hope that those MP3 transmitter things get a bit smaller to the point that they're actually usable :)

blizeh, don't be too put off mate; loadsa off people have changed their HUs with no faults. I had 4 different units in my old leon, and have had 2 different ones in my LCR (trying to keep up with technology!) and not had any faults. The airbag light will come on if the on/off switch is unplugged in the glovebox (if you have the glovebox out for routing cables) but can be reset via vagcom or unplugging your car battery for a while.

Lol except my old Leon didn't have an airbag turn off facility.....it wasn't that high tech ! I'm just saying.....in the end I was quoted about £60 cheapest to turn the bloody thing off, and even that wasn't guaranteed.

I'm thinking of changing my head unit in my new car as nobody else seems to have problems with it - but I may get it done by a shop and pay a bit extra and then if anything happens I can blame them :funk:! I've had 3 cars in total and the first two both had airbag lights - I'm trying to break tradition :)

Apparently the FM transmitters are awful, so not going to bother with them.

Very quick question, the Halfords website says that I need:

Harness Adaptor PC2-69-4 - £13.99
Fascia Adaptor FP-18-00 - £11.99
Antenna Adaptors PC5-52 - £9.99

Does that sound about right? Don't mind getting that if I need to, but was thinking more in terms of if it's a simple switch I'll ask my friend to help me do it, if there's a bit of work involved then I'd rather pay someone like Halfords to do it for me in case I screw up.

Thanks

you don't need the wiring adaptor. leons are iso plug as standard, but the other 2 are correct yes. it is a simple switch. put the tabs in the front of your oem radio and pull it out, if you don;t have the tabs a coat hanger works! unplug the wires and store radio ready for when you sell the car. then put in the new radios cage, with the fascia plate in place, bend the tabs on the cage to lock it into place. then plug your new unit in and drop it in to place! done. you will most likely have to swap the yellow and red wires on the new radios loom (this i=will make sense when you get one!)

That's awesome then, cheers Danny :) Will probably end up upgrading my head unit now then, don't like changing CDs when driving (even when stuck in traffic tbh) so my current setup is starting to be a bit annoying.

Hi mate, many thanks for the volume thing, I notice when I set it to anything above 30 my rear window starts pulsing (is that the right word!?) which is about the point I get paranoid :p

Not sure about the cable unfortunately; I've left mine as 100% standard, I'm sure someone can help out though, it's not a standard AUX cable is it?

Is it possible to adapt some sort of memory stick or an MP3 player with a memory stick to the Aura player ? I don't mind changing CDs all the time since i gotta stop @ red lights anyhow :D; I'm just looking for a little more confort really :).

Also is it possible to fit a remote control on the steering wheel for the Aura ?

You mean something like this? http://www.solisto.de/index.php?page=home&lang=en

Right, found a few I like... (unfortunately not from Halfords so looks like I may have to fit it myself, uh oh!)

http://www.caraudiodiscount.com/deh-5000ub-cd-tuner-usb-aux-in-multicolour-display-p-12608.html (looks awesome)
http://www.caraudiodiscount.com/deh-600bt-cdmp3-player-with-bluetooth-p-12815.html (plus bluetooth)
http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/kenwood-kdcw6041u-tuner-with-interface-p-2378.html (ipod support)

Probably go for the top one, although iPod/Bluetooth support would be nice! Any opinions would be very welcome, thanks :)

Screw it! Going to go for the impulse buy here I think.

Before I order, can anyone please confirm whether I should get a harness adapter and fascia adapter (as mentioned above), or whether I should get this stuff from elsewhere, or just take it somewhere to be fitted? I'm just thinking if Halfords charge £40 for fitting, by the time I've paid £26 on that equipment I may as well just let them do the whole thing.

harness adapter you don't need as the red and yellow wires can be swapped over usually on bullet connectors if they need to be.
fascia adapter is far far cheaper on ebay.

Awesome, that's exactly what I was hoping you'd say, thanks Lee!

Will order the fascia right away, so it's ready for when I finally decide on which stereo to get :)

Edit: Wait up, the Pioneers say rear USB - how does that work!?
