Leon FRs with sunroofs?

I've had my Leon FR DSG 184 for 18 months now and love it, has ticked pretty much every box I want from a car

Only box that isn't ticked is an electric sunroof, my friend has got one in his new Tiguan and it's a nice touch

I'm surprised how few second hand Leons there are with the sunroof option added, whereas on second hand Golf GTDs they seem to be fairly common

Is there a main reason why you're more likely to find a sunroof on a Golf rather than a Leon?

I would ideally like to P/X for a newer Leon with a sunroof, not overly keen on the Golf

some reasons:
- 800 quid extra
- reduces chassis rigidity

I almost ticked the box on the order form, but what's the point in the UK, it's never that hot anyways.

I've seen a few problems mentioned on this forum of leaks caused by blocked drain pipes and the pipes not being fitted properly at the factory.

I think some time ago it was either Sunroof or Air con, and I guess most people wanted the Air con but now you seem to get both, our six month old 184 has a sun roof and of course A/C, some one has stated its not that hot in the UK for a roof , but does not have to be hot
it can be used just to let air into the cabin.
and that means the two cars we own have both A/c and roof

Yeah does seem like a costly option, but surely VW would charge the same if not more for the same option? Seen loads of Golfs with sunroofs

That would make sense if it used to be either or, would definitely go for A/C over sunroof, would probably explain why there aren't many used Leons around with both

It was about £800 from the factory which is a lot of money to add on, especially if you've already "downgraded" from a Golf to a Leon for cost reasons.

I didn't even know you could get a sunroof on a Leon until I went to view mine. Didn't know I wanted a sunroof until I sat in the car. Really makes a difference and I think I'll put a sunroof to the top of my "want" list on new cars in the future.

Picked my 2014 Seat Leon 1.8 TSi up last week with a sunroof.
Its great and really lights up the cabin with the roof sliding cover slid back.
Handy in the summer when you can leave it in tilt-up position at work, to help to keep the car cool inside.
Has a really smooth action as well.

It was too cheap to turn down, and I doubt it makes any difference to body rigidity considering that the roof pillars and rails are what give rigidity, not a sheet of floppy metal.

i think part of it is buying a standard spec SEAT or Skoda most buyers are trying to save money. To then load the car up with options defeats this purpose.
Also 3-4 years down the line come trade in time you get the same rock bottom trade in value irrespective of factory fit options.

Seems like I’m in the minority, as I prefer a car without a sunroof.

On one of the VW forums I’m a member on, there’s been quite few discussions of issues with sunroofs on mk7 Golfs;
- drain pipes becoming blocked and water getting into the car interior.
- stress fractures in the glass section surrounding the sunroof panel.
- numerous rattles.
- sunroof shade that slides open and closed under acceleration and braking.
- vibrating sunroof shade.

Oh, and @jacko5; I learned a lesson about leaving a sunroof in the tilt position while parked, on a car I owned in the 1980’s. A small bird got in the car through the opening and panicked because it couldn’t find it’s way out. It left it’s ‘calling card’ all over my car’s interior!

It's about time that a "fixed" roof window was an option from car manufacturers - the light is good, but the choice of not having the opening, sealing, mechanical, weight and cost issues of a fully-opening "sunroof" would be good (with maybe just an interior sun blind), especially in air-conditioned cars....

My brother recently had a courtesy car when his car was in the garage for repairs. It was a Fiat 500, which did have a fixed glass roof, so at least one manufacturer does offer them in one of their models.
