Leon FR 2.0TDI Issues
My 2010 Leon FR 2.0 TDI 170 has been having a couple of issues. The glow plug light flashes when I hit the brakes or when I have been driving along the motorway and pull off at the slip road to a set of lights. This doesn't happen all the time although has been more frequent recently. It can also occur when I am start-stop in traffic. My amber engine management light has only recently started coming on and on occassions this can stay on for a couple of days. However sometimes this switches off by simply turning the engine off and at other times it stays on.
The glow plug light always switches off when I turn the ignition on and off and at times simply resets itself if I continue driving. I have taken the car for a couple of long drives to clear the DPF as recommended on other forums but I'm still no further forwad.
I had a diagnostic and the code related to the turbo boost sensor but as soon as it was diagnosed the light switched itself off. I have noticed a few times that the fans are staying on longer than they should but highly confused.
Any suggestions would be great.
Cheers

Hey

I have checked the pipes and run a scan and the fault code is showing
P2563
TURBOCHARGER BOOST
CTRL POS SENS CIRC
RANGE/PERF

Dont have a clue where this is or what it is.

Solved

Issue solved. I bit the bullet and put the car into SEAT. They have diagnosed the EGR valve.

Hi, bit of an old thread I know, but mine has just started having exactley the same problems even down to noticing the fans running longer later. So seat replaced the egr valve and you've had no trouble since?

Cheers.

Hey

Hey there,
I did and to have the egr replaced it costs about a grand. No issues since.
How old is your Leon?

Ouch. Mines 59 plate leon, coming up to 77k miles. Been doing some research going to have a look at the turbo boost actuator tomorrow, check the vaccum on it to see if the diapraghm is split, as thats cheaper to replace and relatively easy to get to! (compared to egr valve!)

EGR valve and inlet manifold on the 2.0 TDI are very easy to get at, since the 2.0 engine is crossflow - the inlet manifold with the EGR valve attached to it is the first thing you see when you lift the engine cover, feeding in to the inlet ports at the front of the cylinder head. So easy compared to the 1.9 TDI that I'm tempted to take it off just to see if the manifold has become choked with the sooty sludge that is produced when hot sooty exhaust gas hits oily inlet charge, oily from the PCV gases.

On the 1.9 TDI this was a significant issue in high-mileage engines, leading to overboost and limp mode as the EGR valve started to stick open. The EGR now includes a cooling system which should delay that problem, but I expect there is still something building up on the walls of the manifold and the EGR valve assembly.

Oh right, I was led to believe that the egr valve was on the back of the block on the 2.0 common rail engine? If that's the case I'll have it off tomorrow and have a look at it, don't suppose anyone has a picture of its location on the CR engine?

I'm talking about the PD engine, which is the engine in the Mk.2 FR TDI from 2006 to 2009 according to all the references. I thought the CR did not come in until the Mk.3 Leon, but after checking I can see that it arrived earlier. Sorry for the confusion - I made the assumption that Mk.2 Leon TDI = PD.

I've been looking at the engine today and im pretty sure it is on the front of the engine anyway. I checked the vaccum on the turbo boost position sensor and it was very poor so im suspecting that's at fault, I will order one and attempt changing it next weekend.

hey

I had my Leon checked by another garage and put onto the diagnostic machine. They said that the vacuum had been causing the issue. I contacted Seat who informed me that this could basically be crap. Put the car into Seat who diagnosed the issue as the EGR.
Could be many things.
Hope you get it sorted

Changed the turbo actuator boost sensor on Saturday, has fixed all the issues now :) £150 for the new part and fitted myself with relative ease, could have been alot more expensive if it ended up being the egr! Mines coming up to 80k now so I'll probably remove the valve and have a look if it's bunged up at some point.
