Right Dale, need a bit of help here. I picked up the Cupra R front splitter today. How much of the pieces sticking up in the middle of the splitter did you remove? See pic below. Was it just the 'clip' parts at the top of the two centre pieces or did you have to cut of more than that?

Did you use a heat gun to help mould the splitter into place? Or did you just use self-tapping screws to shape it to the way you wanted? What size of self-tapping screws did you use?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Dave

I ended up removing about half maybe 2/3 but do it bit by bit until your happy it sits straight and not bending down
Just the two centre clips i cut off mate, nothing else
I used a hair dryer to shape it a lil better then put in the self tapping screws
Think they were about 15mm in lengh, i used about 15 in total

Thanks Dale for your response. Can you just clarify please what you removed by half / two thirds please? Is that after you cut the two centre clips, the 'stocks' that are left you then removed about half to two thirds of them? Sorry, don't want to mess this up.

Half to two thirds of the two centre clips
but start off by just taking half off and see how it goes from there

Here's some pics

Excellent. Those are the pictures I was looking for. Cheers for that. Now to get it fitted and moulded. I will do that first, then remove it to get it either carbon dipped or painted gloss black.

I wonder if there is a way to machine the splitter to close the gap between bottom of BOC front lip and the splitter?

Lol good
Personally I would get it sprayed or dipped first
Then attach it to your car
But it's up to you

When using the self-tapping screws, did you just start from one of the sides and work your way round? So, line up the side of the splitter with the bumper and ensure it is flush and then just self-tap the whole way round to the other side?

Have ordered some double-sided sticky form to be placed between splitter and bottom of bumper. Think this will help to position the splitter prior to using self-tappers and make a good seal between the two component areas. Will see how it looks when it comes to the time!

Temporarily fitted the splitter tonight and I have to say I really am in two minds about it. I know it needs painted / dipped, but am a bit hesitant to spend any more money on it. Am going to body shop on Monday and will see what what they think. My gut instinct tells me that it'll not be staying on.

I'm just not convinced on the actual fit of it. I don't really like the gap between the splitter and the bottom of the bumper at the left and right off centre. Also, the sides of the splitter dont line up with the curvature of the sides of the bumper 100%...lools like it needs some heat work to really try and pull it into shape. Just dont know about it. I am a bit of a perfectionist and if something isn't 100% I usually bin it lol. But, will see what they guys at body shop think.

Thank you for your help though Dale.

I think everyone that has got a good restult with the splitter has had to heat it and bend it to shape to get the right shape for the bumper.

I haven't tried but when they are done right they do look good

I'll get on the laptop soon and post a few pics ... It doesn't look bad, but there is room for improvement.

Edit: Pics now included...

Now, as said, I have temporarily fitted it, but what do people think so far?

Will probably just get it sprayed as it will be cheaper than carbon dipping (especially as I am not 100% about it). I also think I need to set it slightly further back under the bumper a little.

I could be with you on this one Nutkin. That's why I am not 100% sure about it. Will see how much it is going to cost to get it sprayed gloss black. If its more than I think its worth, I'll not bother and just take it off again.

Wonder why Seat haven't released an official splitter? I would say they would say really well and they could make a killing on them. Definitely suits FR better as the lines flow better.
