Leon Cupra 180 or Celica 190 bhp ???

I'd rather have a Mazda RX-8. Have a look for the 189bhp version (or 227bhp if you want faster). Nicer looking, more roomy, more comfortable and yet more admiring looks than the Celica.

Saying that though, alot of people like the Leon's, my LCR has never received a bad comment and is always looked at.

Some good quality sticky tyres and upper and lower strut braces will help the Leon handle well and isn't too expensive. An uprated dogbone mount will help throttle response and standing starts. I'm not sure how the suspension differs between the LC and LCR though...

I'm even more confused now !!! I do love the look of them from the front and the interior but they do look a bit rough from behind !

I'm gonna go test drive one this weekend and see what i think about them , if not for me i might have to chip in a few more quid and look for a relativley cheap lcr

Don't be so sure mate. The used car Market has never been slower, lots of people feeling the pinch and having to sell their weekend toys, >2m unemployed. It's a buyers Market moreso than ever before, I think you could easily pick up an LCR for 4k. Don't be afraid to haggle and remember that there's no such thing as a cheeky offer. The bottom line is that you're the man with the cash in his pocket!

Yeah good point , I had a look on ebay at the completed listings for lcr's and it seems you're right . Now i'll just have to wait until one pops up close-ish to me and for the right price !

I guess it all depends on circumstances. For me atm, I wouldn't sell for les than £8.5-£9k - but if someone needed the money fast you might get a bargain.

I dont blame you . I dont think a lot of people would settle for less than the car is worth but i guess one day i might get lucky , if not by the time i have waited for a cheap one i will have saved enough for a more expensive one so i cant really lose !

I've come from an RX8 PZ to an LCR and they're a nice car, but so lacking in torque. I used to have fun in the twisties but anywhere else and you could easily get shown up by something with 30-40 bhp less. I always remember having a play with a Clio 182 and couldn't shake him on one of my well known private roads.

I'd imagine the celica would be very similar to the Rex, nice but could get shown up by any quick/tuned diesel.

Save for the LCR, it'll be worth it.

I'm thinking between 5-6k for an LCR.... but I'm not likely to buy just yet as lack of funds. Plenty of LC's around 4-5k now tho!

Well... Not quite 4k but a mint 2004 LCR went for 5K which i could have stretched to if i had seen it before it sold .

I made the mistake of rushing into buying the cupra i have now , while in some ways i love the car i kinda wish i'd saved a little more and got the facelift model . I'll make sure i get the right one next time and if that means saving a bit more then so be it !

Sure it wasn't the 140 version mate? I'd be very surprised if a standard LC easily left behind a Celica 190. My brothers just swapped his for a PPP WRX and although the scooby is quicker the Celica wouldn't be miles behind in a straight line race.

Nope definetely not, it had '190' badge on the back

He was 2-up and I was 1-up on an almost empty dual carriageway.

Sorry guys just doesn't add up as the Leons score on Torque but that's about it. Sure the Celica's power is way up the rev range but for both of you to beat one easily given the figures below suggest unlikely

A car with more torque is easier to drive fast, not faster. Acceleration comes from the power to weight ratio and traction. A car with less torque just needs to use more revs. Power, torque and revs are all interrelated using the formula Power = Torque x Revs / 5252, when discussing horesepower.
