OK - reporting back:

Needle sweep can be done with Carista.
You can turn off the option to have flashing hazard lights under heavy braking.

I can't see any option to change the MFD digital speedo to mph, changing the area to "Australia" converts all your units to km and nothing else.

edit: This is on a facelift 59 plate Cupra.

Needs to be set to "rest of the world"

i have the VCDS wire bought from ebay (£12 or so) and the software downloaded on a laptop (FREE) and i can do diagnostics and everything. i even set the needle-sweep on my 2011 leon.

i dont use it often so i guess a little notebook and a wire does the trick. i guess if you want to play about with the settings often the Carista thing will be handy.
