LCR yellow oil warning light on

Hi. I was driving my LCR pretty hard as usual and the oil warning light came on. I had a look and it was pretty low on the dipstick. Fair enough. I plodded home slowly and filled up the oil to near the top of the textured bit on the dipstick but the light hasn't gone off. I tried turning off the car for a minute and locking it up to make sure everything reset but the light's still on. Any ideas? Am I right in thinking the yellow light is oil level and the red would be oil pressure and certain engine damage if I didn't stop?

Thanks

Yellow light is oil level red light is oil pressure. It has been known for the oil level light not to turn off even after topping up due to a switch inside the bonnet catch becoming faulty. Basically this switch tells the car the bonnet has been opened, this should reset the light but obviously if this is faulty the car won't know the bonnet has been opened and the oil topped up.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I thought about the different lights but wasn't sure. So basically nothing bad will happen if I drive the car like normal as long as I keep an eye on the oil level until I get it fixed? If it goes red then stop and worry...

pretty much yehh. or it could be a faulty oil level sensor. if I was u I would try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes. it might reset the light, if you have the standard cd player make sure you have the security code for it

Didn't you get a folder with the car? There is a radio instruction guide in there and the radio code is in that.

Just undone the battery and the light's gone. Had the code but didn't need it anyway. I spoke to seat and they said they'd heard of the bonnet switch issue before so it looks like it's that. Thanks for the help

I broke my bonnet switch by accident when the cable connected to the pull handle in the car that opens the bonnet decided to detach itself from behind the S badge, its about £35 for a new one as well!

Does your indicators flash when you LOCK the car? mine no longer flashes (or chirps) when locking since i broke the sensor.. it does when unlocking though

If it doesnt flash then your switch is broke :)

The lights definitely flash because I just forgot to lock my car and had to longshot it from across the car park, but it's never chirped since I bought it 2 months ago....

Already got the pipe ordered mate and will be getting it changed next week when I get a full service. The guy at seat said the yellow light is oil level and the red is pressure, so as long as there's enough oil in it it's unlikely any bad will happen. I think I actually read your thread he other week. Got top end knocking?? What colour was your warning light?

Went for a test drive and it didn't come back on, and I'm fairly confident if there was a problem it would have blown up if you see what I mean.... Bit of a dodgy one though if it's definitely not the bonnet sensor

I had a similar problem where the oil light came on, I checked and the level looked fine but I added some more anyway and even then the light wouldn't go off. After reading comments here about the bonnet catch sensor and to disconnect the battery for 10mins but in fact what I did was to remove the 3 fuses under the cover on top of the battery - I took them out and put them straight back in a few seconds later, the oil light is now off and I didn't have to recode the stereo

you removing the fuses must of been a coincidence. those fuses are for the radiator fans and ABS
