LCR Facia surround & HU Cage

Ok I've looked at all the guides and it appears as though to replace the standard HU you -

1) remove old HU
2) Trim plastic from slot to allow new HU cage to fit correctly
3) Insert cage and bend cage lugs to secure it
4) Insert new HU through Autoleads facia adaptor into cage

This is where I think I'll have a problem. Not done it physically yet but trying HU and facia out on desk.

If I do step 4 and pass the HU through the facia adaptor and into the cage the HU will not push all the way into the cage so the securing clips engage. The thickness of the part of the facia adaptor which the HU pulls against prevents the HU inserting any further.

Only thing that appears that would work is to push the cage through the facia adaptor and then into the dash and then secure cage and adaptor. This allows the HU to push all the way into the cage. Problem is this will push the cage out further into the car and make the HU standout from the dash.

I'm confused

The HU adapter goes in the dash before the cage does, then the HU will fit.

What HU is it?

That's the only way I could make sense of it. Not sure why some fitting guides I found said fit it after the cage.

admittedly i see my guide is wrong - i actually found this and i had to remove my cage before fitting the HU and then fitted facia adapter before cage to get it all ok.

My apologies for not updating my guide if it was mine you were going by!

Hi mate

Yours was only 1 of a few I found - just had me scratching my head for a while.

As far as I'm concerned any info is useful info - would have figured it out eventually when I tried.

Now onto the next problem
