Laquer lifting on the bonnet

Help,

Bought my 03 Ovni yellow LCR from a Seat dealer in 03 with 4k on the clock it had been an ex demo. Over the last month the laquer has lifted off the bonnet in a large strip and is ever expanding. An idependant paint specialist says it has had a re-spray and the laquer has not bonded to the final paint coat. They say that it is not unusual for these defects to take a lot of time to appear (3 yeays) typically caused by a stone chip lifting a single area of paint and then water getting underneath.
Stricktly speaking the car is out of it's 3 year paint warrenty
I have put a claim into Seat and am still waiting to hear, anyone else with a similar experience or explanation?
I'm not going to be a happy chappy if i have to fork out a few hundred quid to sort it myself.

nibbles

And Impreza
I have also had this problem ,i bought the car brand new and after a year i noticed the bonnet had patches and no matter how muched i polished it would not go  .in the end i took it back to the dealers they had two attemps but could not get rid of  .so they decided to paint not only the bonnet but the wings as well and as u can see from my photo,s not bad at all:lol:

Thanks for the reply,

I agree it looks pretty damn good. I hope i get the same response from Seat , after all, paint lifting off a three and a half year old car is in my view unacceptable.

Had exactly the same on my BMW. It had been painted on its roof and bonnet. A stone chip on the leading edge of the roof (just above the windscreen) allowed water under the clearcoat and it slowly spead like a disease. Bonnet was the same. Only answer is to strip it and repaint/clearcoat as necessary.

I imagine that Seat won't have anything to do with it unless they are the ones that painted it (unlikey) as its not a factory job. A test with a Paint Thickness Guage should tell if its had paint or not, assuming the dealer hasn't tested this way to work that out.

4k dealer demo - probably was stickered up hence the need for a bonnet respray.

I imagine your claim will be rejected, because it's not a fault with the 'SEAT' paint.... frustrating really for you - but I hope they'll co-ers the dealer into helping you out

My 2001 Onvi Yellow Cupra has done the same, about 3 patches around 1"-2" in diameter on the bonnet and one on the bootlid. :(

I bought the car off a mate who had it from new so I know it was regularly polished and hasn't had a respray, just crap paint quality IMHO
