shouldn't you be considering flow rates on these intercoolers?will they shift enough air for the application?

Yep but it would be alot of money if it fooked your engine up aswell.I would say if something is desighned for one make of manufacturer and then you try and fit it to another( excluding the vag group) then its not gonna work as well as something that is desighned for your car.
But like you say, yes the forge fmic is alot of money( i paid £705 for mine) but at the end of the day i feel reashored that its gonna be up to the job for my engine and is gonna beable to cope when i get it turbo'd or chipped. But hey horses for corses and everyones got their own preferences.

Pulsar / sunny one is good for 300bhp on a garret gt28. So i would think it will cope with 200cc less and a smaller turbo.
it didn't seem to fair too well in anywhere but sweden when it was rallied, but i cannot see why it wouldn't work as a FMIC,if it shifts more than the stock smic then fine, but pipework restrcitions are another factor a bit of data logging would soon give you peice of mind.
btw not trying to throw a spanner in the wolrks here,i'd love a bespoke forge one,but its money i can't afford and i don't need one at a the moment.

THIS is the post guys.

I really need to do the homework before putting the money into the car, 156bhp is ok but I need more for not too much more £.

This is the list:

KO3s Got
Dynatwist Got
Custom FMIC Thinking about it
Milltek & DP Available ;)
Revo Will leave till last and have Stage 2 1st as last (and I know the dealer)

By the time this all gets fitted and the cost involved I don't want to loose too much on the car when it does come to selling it.

Fingers crossed it shouldn't cost me more than £1,300/£1,400. But it started like this with my old car - becomes an obsession where I spent £4.5k on a £5.5k car and got £5k back on it after 2 years of ownership.

If I had put that money in the bank as apposed to 'mods' I could have upgraded my car instead (better option).

If it takes more then £1.5k to get an extra 85bhp and 100 lb/ft. I am selling my K03s. (That's £1,500 using second hand parts).

for those that think that it's not up to the job lad posted on here while back with a clio with a vag 20 turbo in the car and he had the same fmic as mine and his car was runing 280-290 bhp :funk: so it is up to the job hope this helps.(hey luke how are you mate hope the car's ok after the prang).

cheers nick

not thinking that at all, just that this is your first post on the thread.....so what have you got?my cars a petrol 20vt,would a tdi intercooler be over or undertasked?they run differing boost pressures, would a renault laguna one run any better with differing pipe routing on an/other car,all questions i would be asking before i spunk my hard earnt on another cars intercooler.
if yours runs better than using the stock SMIC then great guns, but i'm reserving judgement until someone can show me evidence via data logging

I see your point, but i cant see how its going break my engine  Well i would hope its better than the one on my car at the moment, as i think that was designed with one thing in mind, space restrictions.

Data logging would be good to do, shame i havent got vag-com. First thing first though is too see if this one will fit.

You all think that £600 £700 is alot for a front mounted intercooler but you get what you pay for in my view. One that has been made and frabricated for the ibiza seems so much easier rather than trying to make up your own and coming across al sorts of unknown problems.

i can see where your comming from jason my car has the ko3s jabba remap the car runs around the 240 bhp mark would have liked to have had the am ic but at the time funds did not allow this this ic came in at under the £300 mark which i could go to when i went up to jabba for the remap mike said that this was on the same lines as the am in terms of performance so that was good enough for me.

good stuff,300 quid isn't such a bad price IMHO,but i don't control the market,we will always pay top dollar for toys, unless we DIY ;)

hmm 130 odd quid for a fmic, yes ok for oem standard spec, but im sure forge and other companys that sell FMIC for 600+ would be out of buiesness if they were the same as the 130 quid version, there is a reason they are 600+, they have been tryed and tested with hundreds of hours testing time at producing very good resaults on a modded car, just for referance the FMIC im looking at getting is 850 quid :) and the spec is ment to produce slightly lower temps than the forge one :) althought untill i get it i cant prove that :)

Testing is obviously expensive, but so is fabricating, welding, bending & assembling custom application intercoolers for relatively small batch orders. These parts are more likely mostly hand made which is where most of the cost comes from.I have chosen the Renault fmic route 'cos I can get the ic inlet/outlet pipes removed & 70mm pipes welded in place at work. The Pace Products web site sells all the ally tubing required to do the job & Samco hosing. This is my project in the New Year, not easy & will be time consuming I admit, but should be worth it.

Good luck to anyone who has a go at this.

Thing to consider...

Not much room behind the bumper, your probably gonna have to get cutting...
Pipe fabrication, bending weldingin etc..
Silicones, a nightmare to get hold of and pretty expensive.
Direction of where the pipework goes, retain standard pipework, i.e. forge or re route i.e. AM.

Personally i think for the amount of time it takes and the uncertainty of the results along with the cost, coz it wont be that much cheaper you might as well save up and buy something thats tried and tested and easy to fit. (took me about 2 hours). But if you do decide to do it, good luck and i hope you get some decent results.
