after drivin through a big puddle on the way to the pub we got back in the car and the missus stalled it in reverse...
when she started the car back up the EPC light and the engine symbol were both lit up.

got in the car 4 work this morning both lights still on. drove to work and turned car off then on and the epc light went out. engine light remained lit.

Can anyone help me with finding out whats wrong and getting the light to go off.

I think its been caused by water but i know jack about cars really.

thanks 4 lookin guys Dan

i've got the same problem mate, i searched the internet to have a look into it and both the brake lights on the boot are out on mine so it said that might be why the lights have come on so give your brake lights a check

If its not the brake light bulbs or switch, then I'd expect it to go off after a few more engine starts. Though if it remains on after another 4 or 5 engine starts then you should get it scanned to find out what the problem might be.

Is this not some form of "limp home" mode as it knows that the LEDs lights are not correct. Maybe you should have fitted some ballast in parallel so that the current draw is correct.

The engine management (ECU) cuts the fuel when you put your foot on the brake. It sounds like your new LED bulbs may be confusing the ECU into thinking you are pressing the brakes. I would just try putting the original filament bulbs back in.

A completely blown bulb or a busted brake light switch will cause the EPC light to come on as the ECU detects this as a fault condition. (If the electronic throttle pedal were to fail and always indicate full throttle you could normally just press the brake and the engine will be cut by the ECU. The EPC light comes on for a bad brake light circuit as this represents a safety issue.) There is no change in engine performance with this fault.

Best way of finding out is plugging VAGCOM into it and seeing what fault code you get. Could be all sorts that can trigger a light. The code will still be in hte log.

turns out it was the bulbs went to the stealers and they said try some normal bulbs.

so went halfrauds brought some bulbs and put them in and car was back to normal.

cant beleive the led bulbs could cause so much agro oh well only 99p off ebay.

so just so you all know avoid led stop/tail bulbs. they didnt even look that bright :(

P.S cheers for all the help people :D
