I always change the oil every 3-4k in my cars, between regular servicing.

So, I've covered about 4k since i bought the car and the oil was looking a bit murky, so i dragged the ramps out of the garage.

First problem, although my car is at standard height, the front bumper was too low to clear the ramp............que lots of sawing of wood to make some blocks to give a bit more clearance.

The car was serviced just before I bought it, and the garage must have employed Mr incredible, to do up the sump plug, I had to use a breaker bar to free it.

Then comes the oil filter, nice one Seat/volkswagen, put it in the most awkward to reach place ever right above the front subframe...........arse!

Obvoiusly it started to piss down as soon as I got under the car, so that was nice.

Wish I hadn't of bothered!

I know what you mean, I did an oil change on my Mk3 Ibiza Cupra at the weekend and I also had a subframe in the way when removing the filter. Also ramps were a no go, had to use trolley jack and axle stands. It was so much easier on my Ibiza Mk2 8v GTi.

I agree with Fl@pper, proper ramps are the way to go.

National Tyres will do it for £20 and they supply cheap oil. Buy some good oil, go to them, sit in a warm waiting room and get them to stamp the book! :)

so it was hard because you didn't use axle stands?

only way I've managed to get a car up - ramps are far too narrow

My driveway is too narrow to get a trolley jack in from both sides to get it onto axel stands.

It was more difficult than I would expect because the filter is in an awkward location above the front subframe.

the joys of owning a pelle pump.dipstick out, pump in start sucking, cup of tea and a bacon butty later the sump is empty.undo filter and take off from above, ctach the spills with a rag,fit new filter, fill sump to required level.wash hands and bob is your uncle.

best 36 quid i ever spent on my car(for the pump)
