I've got the BMC CDA 85-150 and removed the engie cover with the inbuilt air filter. There's a noticable improvement in pick up, the car just pulls a lot better especially over 4000rpm.

The only downside is that the crankcase breather, which is a pipe going into the left hand side of the engine cover / air filter, doesn't connect to anything.

I've fitted a small breather filter onto it but there is smell of engine vapours when you're stopped at traffic lights etc.

I'd recommend either fitting a catch can and then a breather filter
or alternatively extending the pipework into the silicon elbow (that you'll need to buy to fit onto the throttle body when fitting an induction kit)

Got my exhaust done this morning, sounds really good :D! Koni springs also arrived today and will be fitting them next week!

Just deciding on the BMC kit now, amccan is tempting me! Only down side is that breather pipe and the looks! Whats the silicon elbow you're talking about?

As one of my mates pointed pout y'day would be best running the intake down into the right and cut some slots in the small grill on the front left of the car so it has a direct cold air feed.

How'd the lowering go btw?

Because the engine cover sits directly ontop of the throttle body when you fit an induction kit you will need a 90 degree elbow for fitting from the bmc cda onto it.

Have a look on the bmc website, then go to products, car, volkswagen golf mark4 1.6 there's a mounting picture you'll see the elbow there. although i mounted mine slightly differently.

(they suggest a cda 70-130, for cars upto 1.6l, i got a cda 80-150 (for cars over 1.6l) on the cheap off e-bay) ;)

Hope this helps

Ok thanks for that will check it out later.

Jonisginger could you take some close ups of how you fitted the front splitter? Or try and describe it!

Thanks

Ha! Wooooooow! Koni springs rock!

Braking is the most improved! Very very stable even under hard braking, only starts to snake under extremely high speeds from 100 or so. But still it's incredible, what tyre size are you running?

Handling is sharper and the car turns in a lot better. Ride quality is better than before still maintaining a brilliant boat like feel at any speeds when in a straight line but then tightens up when you chuck it about.

Acceleration is much improved from corners and still but less so from a standing start (straight line).

It's pretty much exactly what I had hoped for! Looks are fantastic, pics up tomorrow once it's had a
good clean and detailing!

The splitter was kinda an adhoc thing. On the bottom of the bumper there are indents etc which you can line the bottom up with. Once its lined up in like 4 or so places (2 each side of the centre) you can screw it in with self tappers. Get a friend to help you level it up roughly (visually pleasing) and then you do the stuff from underneath. Once it has 2 screws in the middle you can start screwing the rest in places. Then, put a screw near the edges (where the bumper ends, near the tyre) and then cut the excess off (you might need to take SOME off before you start fitting) with a pair of thick twig cutters (for GARDENING!) gives a really nice clean cut on a warm day. Also makes the cut line up perfectly.

Before you start, you need to hacksaw the clips on the depressed centre part otherwise it won't sit parallel to the bumper. I basically just tried to cut them level to undepressed bit since I knew that was going to sit flat with the bumper.

Does that help?

Ah right i see so it comes with the 90 degree bend. How would you get the breather pipe into that pipework tho? and would it have to go before or after the filter?

Was also thinkinginstead of an induction kit maybe just running a cold air feed and using the original panel filter box with a pipercross filter. Is there away of stopping air comming in the warm air feed from the manifolds?

The biggest problem is the intake size of the inbuilt air box / engine cover. That hole on the front right hand side is not much bigger than a straw!

I've now got a 85mm dia pipe leading right in to the air filter on the bm cda, so much better than 25mm dia hole at the front of the engine cover

Well bit the bullet and bought th BMC kit today, £155! also purchased a breather pipe filter. Was thinking about kind of chopping off the corner of the air box so could still have the panel filter on and fit the 90 degree bend under it but i phoned up the seat parts dealers and they said a new part would cost me £130 to replace it so think its best not to, in case i need it again to sell or whatever!

amccan could you send me/post a pic of your engine bay?

Ah yeah. Update on the looks. A 40mm makes 18" alloys look like they fit the car properly Pics are a little decieving. If you're looking for an obviously lowered look then you'll need a 50 or 60mm drop. I like it though. It's classy without being obviously modified.
