It doesn't matter if you take it off as long as you put an oil fitler on the oil breather pipe.

However I want to keep mine on and I might disconnect mine partially. I think if I unscrew the bottom part it will take the air filter out of the system but leave the gromits on? Will this still be mechanically ok?

Another 1.6 driver here :D! Have read through this thread and has given me ideas! Was thinking about a cold air feed or induction kit on mine. Have you made any mods to the intake yet?

And i have to say those wheels look amazing! How much did they set you back if you don't mind me asking!?

Yeah they are mentally good around the bends.

Koni springs and wheel alignment, and a much needed clean inside and outside on Wednesday! :D

Think ARBs are next then some sort of exhaust and intake mods.

Have you been looking at the BMC CDA? Do you know if this replaces the whole panel filter ontop of the engine?

Got him down from 350 to 320 for cat back without mid silencer and a nice tail pipe. All stainless steel and lifetime guarantee. Very helpful showed me a load of tail pipes and helped me choose! Put them up against the car to have a look!

Ah hadnt thought about those might help with handling!

Ouch! Going to get a Raid MaxFlow carbon induction kit...£100.

Maybe a backbox too later, but the engine cover im sure is very restrictive

Brakes maybe if I find them going cheap if i find on a smashed up FR/LCR

Yeah well i had a mk4 1.6 golf before this and the exhaust went at about the same mileage as this and was going to cost me about the same for a stock one so it doesnt sound too bad to me!

Yeah the engine cover is quite annoying, i was looking at the bmc cda one looks like quite good quality and from looks of pics comes with all the bits including breather pipe filter. Although if you dome come to sell it, handy to have the origonal airbox just to pop back on!

Would like a set of rs4 wheels but i cant justify the £400 odd yet!

I paid £300, they'd done 1000 miles and had new tyres on. (fairly crappy ones but, new ones none the less!)

Car is going to garage at 11 for lowering and wheel alignment! :D :D

Then no more mods until next payday probssssssss.

I can drive my car quickly rounds bends but I think I'm going to have to spend a few weeks getting used to the upped cornering speeds until I can drive it to the limit again

That's the great thing about modding, slowly adding bits allows you to progress a bit at a time and feel the difference each part makes. Rant over.

anyway, lowering, alignment, clean and pics later :D

Kool how much is the labour gona cost you? I was going to do it with a mate whos done them before next week but wasnt sure about alignment.

Yah seen some on the bay for £400 new with cheap ass tyres! Only 17's tho so cant really justify it for the extra 1 inch!

and PLEASE make sure you get OEM wheels, replicas look tacky in real life! my mate bought some and they are so poooo. and they don't have the gun metal finish, only plain silver. the NEW OEM ones have plain silver finish but they just look so much better.

^^^^^^^^ IMPORTANT

and I'm paying about £150.

I tried to do it myself but couldn't make enough room to remove the loose strut from the clamp. Gutted because I think I'd have been able to do the rest. the hub was dropped but sat on the driveshaft so I was stumped. a guy i spoke to at tescos said you have to release the ball joint and loosen the hubnut. This is ok if its a track car and you have another to drive if you get stuck with it all in bits but i dont, so its going to a garage now :(

kinda :) because I know roughly how to do it...

Ok point taken! Wont get replicas!

Yeah ive ordered some koni springs for about £100 and then hopefully fit them with some help and however much it costs to get alignment!

Oh also got some exhaust wrap to try and lower temps in the engine bay! Apparently can be quite effective!
