It had about 4 pages of advisories off the top of my head.
Rear tyres
handbrake
emissions
exhaust produced excessive noise than that standard
front bumper insecure
tinted rear lights
front and rear number plates
tyres rubbing on suspension struts
fluid leaking somewhere think it was a tiny brake line leak.

I cant happen to remember the rest big-pete. Hopefully they wont try my handbrake again. As ive put it off.

Cant afford to not have a car especially on my income.

Hi guys. Well i failed.

I failed on
.nearside front wheel bearing has excessive play
.offside rear wheel bearing has excessive play
.Offside front hub loose. Wheel hub spigot mount excessively worn
.Exhause emissions carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle excessive
.exhaust emissions lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits.

Help guys... Im gonna need part numbers and whether or not these things i can do on my own.

Ive got the 1.4s 8v apq engine on a 99 t reg facelift.

If you don't know how to change front wheel bearings already it's not something your gonna have tools to do. And for a one off it's cheaper to pay for someone to do it.

Offside rear wheel bearing you can probably get away with just tightening it up. Literally take the rear wheel off, knock off the cover thats there. This will expose a nut which you just need to tighten up a bit after removing the split pin.

Offside front hub loose could be anything, I don't think that description is really pointing us to a specific fault.

Exhaust emissions I don't know how you would sort on a 1.4 to be honest. But a load of redex in the tank and giving the car some real abuse and getting it really hot then taking it into the tester usually sorts it out.

Ok. So roughly what is a fair price for someone to do my front bearings?? Is there the possibilty i effed them up doing my clutch.?

Im going to give my rears a try then.

With the front hub loose...what is the wheel hub spigot mounting?

I fail emissions every year. Have you ever tried clean burn? To get through emissions?

Thanks for all the help mate. And sorry for all the questions.

Fair price is an hours labour plus cost of bearing for any decent garage. Probably £80ish per side. The only way you could break them doing your clutch is if you removed the driveshafts from your hub and didn't do the nuts up again properly afterwards.

The wheel hub spigot mounting I can only think is the spigot that the wheel sits on. It sounds much more likely to me that you have a problem with your ball joint to me. You need to get the car jacked up and work out where the play is.

Lol yeah i did remove the driveshafts from the hub.

Ball joint being the thing with the 3nuts in a triangular mounting isnt it? That recently got chaneged on that side so that is possible. Yeah i guess i'll have it jacked up tomorrow.

Thanks for the help mate. Makes alot of sense now. Thanks again. Bearings dont seem to be much try get a trade price at work.

And i guess its time for me to announce that once it gets sorted i will be getting rid of the beeza.

You could save some money on doing the bearings by removing the hub yourself then and just getting somewhere to replace the bearing in it for you.

Ball Joint is the triangular thing.

Yeah i got someone to sort it now. Going to enquire tomorrow.
What im still rather baffled about is the wheel hub spigot mounting with excessive play.

I was shown that my wheels were wobbling ridiculously...would you say it was bearings? Dont want to go through changing them and turning out it doesnt sort the wobble.

Ahh this is a headache.

Bearings will make the wheels wobble yes. Although it sounds like on the other side the piece the wheel bolts onto (the hub) is broken.

Hubs are pricey arent they? Ouch.

Have you heard of having to replace the main nut that holds it all together everytime you remove the hub?

That may be why.

Flapper is it rude me asking if you can give me a price there? Surely it must be cheaper than my trade discount at my work (Halfords)
