Is my car fitted with an alarm? How can I test?

Amm...I didn't know there were Leon models without an alarm! Let me connect my VCDS to see if there is a feature in the 09 Central Electric module. Also, if you connect the cable, you should see an alar Module..

Heyy! Just wondering if you were able to find out anything?

Thanks!

No worries man! Whenever you're free! Thanks a lot, appreciated!

Hello! I finally got time to play with the VCDS.

I didn't find anything directly related to the alarm, but I found something though:

You can find 2 things on the main screen, the immobilizer wich prevents the car being started if not using the proper key. And in module 09 Central Electrics you'll find the internal sensors.

Focus on these 2 modules:

vcds1.jpg

on the central electric module, click on Adaptation (I took the screenshot too soon that's why the button looks greyed out)

vcds2.jpg

now, go to the top drop down menu and select Interior Monitoring Sensitivity, if you see an error message that says "ERROR NOT INSTALLED" or something like that, means that you don't have that module, therefore.....no alarm :(

vcds3.jpg

Now, the immobilizer part....(Sorry, no screen =( ) when clicking on the module, you'll see a screen similar to the second image on this post, click on Adaptation and you'll see a drop down menu and a bunch of things....that'll mean you do have immobilizer, that is kind of a theft protection system.

Hope it helps!

cheers!

Bonus post!

I went ahead and did a couple of vids to show you how my car's alarm work, also, here's a pic of my "interior grill", taking a closer look I can see I have 3 grills! 2 small ones next to the sunroof control and the big one I showed you before...I honestly dont know wich one is for what...I think the handsfree mic is also located on either one of them.
Maybe the little ones are for the mic and the big one for the sensor?

On the first video I show you how the little LED works and also the SAFE function, with the window down, I lock the car, you can see that the LED flashes quickly for about 2 secs and then every 1 sec aprox. If I stick my arm inside the car, the alarm immediately fires! that's due to the volumetric sensors.
Also, if I try to open the car from the inside, I can't, the SAFE function disables the opening of the car from the interior.

Video 1

Now, on this second video, I click the lock button twice within 2 seconds, this tells the car to "disable" the volumetric sensors and also the SAFE function. Now I can stick my arm and nothing happens, also, I can open the car from the inside but......when I do so, the alarm fires!

Take a look at the LED, it doesn't flash anymore every 1 sec! but the alarm is still active...that makes me think the LED indicator is just there telling you the volumetric sensors and the SAFE function are active! it has nothing to do with the alarm being on or off (that's what I think)

Wow. Thanks a lot for the time and trouble. It's truly appreciated.

I have the grill, but as I said, I'm afraid it's just a plastic casing with no sensors actually installed.

I guess my only option is to connect to VCDS to see if the module exists or not. I'm thinking of placing an order off of DHgate.

But is it not possible for a Leon to have an alarm installed, but no sensors? (From what I recall from reading the manual, it very much is).

In that case, VCDS will just tell me that I have no sensors (if "Error not installed" was displayed), and not if I have an actual alarm or not.

Does anyone know the location of the siren? I popped the hood to take a look, but chances are I wouldn't recognize the siren if I saw it.

PS: When I lock the car, my LED doesn't flash quickly. It just flashes normally (every second).

When I disable SAFE, it doesn't flash at all, for about 30 seconds. Then it flashes normally, every second.

Weird. Plain weird.

Thanks again for your help!

No problem! I might should have started with this question....what's the version of your car?? copa, FR etc etc. maybe we can find out more with that

Well, the versions we get here are a bit weird. I checked our local SEAT website, I think it's called Style.

I can tell you the standard equipment it has, though, not available on lower versions. You might be able to match it to one of the versions you have.

- Alloy wheels
- 4 power windows
- Fog lights
- Cruise control
- Speed-sensitive steering wheel with audio controls
- Radio CD MP3 with 8 speakers
- 6 airbags
- Power, folding, heated mirrors
- 2.0 FSI engine, 6 speed DSG

ammm according to the mexican brochure thats the Reference version, the Style version has sunroof. Anyway, it is suposed to be fitted with an alarm.

I asked a friend of mine who work at a Seat/VW dealership and he told me both the Golf and the Leon come with an alarm standard on every model.

But for example in Mexico as of 2010, every Leon is the Style version and above, there isn't a lower version. I saw in europe some with wheel caps instead of alloys!

Your best bet is the VAG-COM.

Yeah... I guess I'll try to get my hands on VCDS and check.

As far as I know, Leons come with alarms as standard too. Unless, for some reason, our SEAT dealer specifically asks for alarm-less cars, to cut on cost maybe.

I'll come back and update the thread once I have access to VCDS.

Thanks for all the help!

Just a quick update: Just got my VCDS delivered today. Tweaked a few settings in the car. Doesn't look like there's an alarm, unfortunately. Just like you said, it gave me the error module thing.

Ah well.

Thanks again for your help!
