Internal heater/fan noise

Has anyone had a problem with the internal blower fan on their Leon? Mine has developed a strange fluttering sound not dissimilar to the sound you get when a leaf or something is trapped in the system - but this has been happening for many months now (had it been a leaf I would have expected it to disintegrate by now!) and it is beginning to do my head in! [:@]

I don't want to start having to rip bits of dashboard apart to try and identify the problem (I wouldn't even know where to start!) so wondered if this was a common problem or if you had any pointers where to start looking.

The car is a 2002 model Leon TDI 110 SE with climate control.

Thanks in advance!
