Well, I've had a smoke and diagnostic test done.
No pipework leaks at all.
Been told that it's either the MAF or fuel pump or both. I'm gonna start with MAF from EUROCARPARTS for just over £70.
Apparently, there are only a couple of manufacturers of the fuel pump, the price being around £200.
Does anyone know where I could source one cheaper, and is it a big job to fit one ?

Got a remanufactured Bosch MAF today from ECP for just over 60 quid. The actual one that comes up on their website isnt the correct one but luckily they had 0280 218 063 in stock.
Will fit tomorrow and hopefully the problem will be cured, but if not then onto fuel pump:(

Just done a journey of 16 miles that I do quite regularly and got 39 mpg.....with the old MAF I was getting 33 at a struggle.
