Would those who have had a remap on their cars......standard to 1 and 1 to 2....mind sharing this information? I think it would be useful.

Try searching for a company that specialises in this sort of mod. Brentcare deal with performance cars only, and are very fairly priced. Some companies will take the pee as soon as they hear the word remap. I take it you got a bit of a shock with your insurance company. Some say Adrian flux , but I found them expensive. Everyone will be different , so best is just to spend 1/2 day ringing about. Mine went up £60 a year , but that's the remap stage 1 and all the mods declared ready for stage 2.

I did mine through Admiral as a "25%" power increase. Im not sure how they would know if you went 10% or more over that..

Its worth declaring though, seriously. I think it might have cost me an extra £50 or something.

Admiral were not willing to insure my car with a remap, they only said they'd cover it with a chip I'd done some reading and found that they wee fussy about this, so was very specific on the phone. When I called back to cancel thought the cancellations department said they would cover it but with a 60 increase on the last 3 months of the premium. Moving it to greenlight who only cover performance and modified cars saved me over 100 quid on what I was previously paying unmodified, so I'd definitely recommend giving them a try!

Thats a bit weird. They told me they just put it under modifications as a power increase. No mention of "chips".

I'd read online that someone had called for a quote, been told it was fine, then when they had the map done and then called back to accept the quote they were told chips are ok remaps are not, so. Was very specific and the guy went off to check with the supervisor who came back and said a remap is an instant decline. In the end green light were cheaper and the policy is friendly to future mods so I came away happy

Admiral are rubbish for any sort of modification. I tried to declare owing my old car at 19 and they basically told me to do one and laughed! Yet elephant would insure it for 20 pound more in my premium!

Re maps is a very touchy subject for non specialist insurance companies. Some say yeah it's fine but this is the price you think it's reasonable then others will just tell you no point blank!

I am going to go for a specialist insurance company, they are much easier to deal with better prices and much better customer service!
