The inexpensive DIY method
With a cold engine, unbolt the CAT/exhaust from the turbo (3 bolts).
Liberally spray 'oven cleaner' (£4 carbon remover) into the exhaust side of the turbo.
Work the VNT mechanism for 5 minutes.
Leave for 1 hour.
Give it another spray (aerosol or foam), then work the VNT actuator lever again.
Mop up any remaining liquid
Reattach the CAT, and go for a long drive.
VNT mechanism unstuck.
Not sure if i would use oven cleaner on the CAT, maybe a citric acid cleaner etc.

Use a bike pump straight on to the vac line to draw the vnt rod out
