If turbo blown, will the car start?

Today my car failed on me :( the situation was revs were around 3k ish and then it started throwing out white smoke (1st-2nd gear it happened). Pulled over and cut the engine off. No lights or anything on the dash.

Started the car again and was still doing it, so checked the oil and there was nothing on the dipstick so put about 2ltrs ish into it and started it again. This time smoke was reduced alot but then it threw out darker smoke for a second and then cut out.

Now the car dont start :( the question is, have i caused some serious damage now and what would i be looking at cost wise and whats needed?

Really stressed out coz of this and gutted especially after all the mods/work i put into it..

Somebody please help and hope that it can get sorted, coz there is no life in the car now

You know what I'm going to say don't you?

No oil probably = very bad.

Do you know if there was oil in it before it went bang? It could have seized due to no oil and therefore it won't start. Pretty sure there would of been a very loud knocking noise if this was the case though.

It should start even with a blown turbo, and in fact it still should be able to drive. If the turbo is blown it will run like **** and with obvious power drop, plus it will sound like a dentists drill upon acceleration.

It smelt like the oil went through the exhaust as it was smelling of oil from the back. Tbh regarding if there was oil in it before it went like this, i dont know as was only serviced in april and never checked. There was no knocking noise but when i started it again after the seeing the smoke the first time, it did take a few seconds more to start. Once it was towed home, it never started again. Everytime put oil in it, its like was barely showing on the dipstick, and there is no leak.

Did a scan through vagcom and nothing came up. There was no signs of any bad noise coming from the engine/turbo when i first stopped it.

it's possible you have seized the engine with having no oil in it...if it was just the turbo then it would still start

You haven't checked your oil since April??? That was 4 months ago man!!

Personally i did not bother much as would not class it as an oil drinking engine. My brothers 1.9tdi dont need constant checking but i think that is the mistake i have made and a really bad one.

So if the engine is seized, what are my options?

try and get on the crankshaft and see if it will turn over manually...failing that its gonna be a case of stripping the little bugger down to see what damage has been done :(

with you running the engine and there being no oil in it,the engine componants expand just from being really hot....now that the engine has cooled down everything will be a much tighter fit. It might be a good sign that you didnt hear a BIG BANG before you pulled over.

you may find that when the engine eventually cools down enough...and with some oil in it ....it may start again...but you will still have to check it out

might be best to get a video of the engine whilst you try to start it. so we can see what its doing and sounds like.

worrying you put 2 litres of oil in and nothing is showing but then surely the Temp would of gone sky high which im guessing it didnt.

Vagcom next also

personnaly i would try and turn it by hand first...see if it turns over freely before you let the starter wizz it into destruction ;)

Ok update, AA just came out and they say its the starter motor which is not starting the engine. That explains that part. He took off a pipe and it was not full of oil. VAGCOM does not show anything but showing the engine as OK.

The patrol put the car into gear, dropped the handbrake and rocked it back and forth. From this he said that the engine was still turning.

What my question is, is where has all this oil gone?

the starter motor failing would not cause you to have to pull over in the first place though...it is only used for starting the engine??? what pipe did he take off? If you havent checked the oil in a long time it may be that it was really low to start with...as the engine gets hot it cannot be cooled/lubricated properly so will just get hotter and hotter..therefore burning what oil you did have in there

What caused me to pull over in the first place was the white smoke and barely any oil in it. After I started it again yesterday, the car cut out after about 2mins and then did not restart.

The pipe he pulled off was the big fat one that looks like itgoes to the throttle body (i think its called that) on the drivers side of the engine bay

From all those videos, my car never sounded like that yesterday when I saw the smoke even after I started it a couple of times afterwards
