Ibiza Kit-Car - Rio de Janeiro/Brazil (updated with engine pics)

Neon,

The problem about these parts in Brazil is finding them!! :)

We had very few S2 and absolutely no Golf II (unless half a dozen of grey imports from Miami - the convertible one).

We had a VW Gol (brazilian car) GTi 16v and it´s gearbox is recognized for its resistance, there are drag cars here with this box with something like 450-550whp. But probably it isn´t the one you are using because the Gol uses a longitudinal engine and it´s gear box is very similar to the one used by the Audi A4.

If my Ibiza´s gearbox break down I´ll try to find a 5-speed A3T or Golf IV T gearbox to replace it. 6-speed almost don´t exist around here, only in a few Golf IV VR6 (Only 100 of these were sold in Brazil in a special numbered series, the rest of the IV VR6 produced here were all exported).

I´d love to have full access to European parts, but it´s hard for me due to currency exchange and specially due to the Import Taxes that are simply ridiculous around here. I´d love to have a kit of Konis in my daily-driver turbocharged Ford Ka XR, but they cost around 200 dolars each in Europe but I´ll pay something like 500 dollars each to get them in Brazil. Imagine bigger parts like a gearbox or a differential.. [:@]

:headhurt: 500$ for one shock absorber?!!!! This is scarry price (unless you want to buy special sport dampers with FIA homologation)! In case you can buy a Audi TT/Golf IV gearbox you will decide your eventual problems. I think to do same, but than i should search again LSD, Ceramic clutch...... But this is the way!

Was that in Jacarépágua ?

Nice to see so many imports there... wasnt like that back in my days.

Congratulations , the car seems fast...

I just think your wheel/suspension setup needs an upgrade, I can be wrong but the vids look like the car is a little bit Jumpy ... what setup you got ?

Very nice videos... congratulations :funk:

Brilliant Result ...You crazy man :cartman:

Thanks for the compliments!!

Marco, the car has Eibach springs, Proflex dampers and a MAD geometry perfect for rally but shitty for tarmac hahaha... But, since I didn´t know how the car would behave, I simply lowered it a lot and on the track I adjusted the front dampers a little bit.

I definetely need harder springs in the front, even though the actual springs are already pretty strong! Won´t be easy to find suitable ones, but won´t be impossible either!

The car really begs for better tyres, but they yet don´t fit my budget... One thing at a time hehehe

But for now I already believe I have machine enough to fight with the Mitsu. EVOs and any other mad machine that comes to our trackdays... All the rest will have (already had) their assess kicked hahaha.

The trackday was in Jacarepagua, yes, but our f*ck****ng mayor destroyed half of it (the BEST part of it, in fact) to build a stupid pool, an useless stadium and another sh**ty building for the Panamerican Olympic Summer Games... So we´re left with a track that demands a lot of power and a lot of traction but not so many brains as it did before!!

But in Interlagos, São Paulo, the track demands a lot of power but not so much traction... I believe that it will be kind of "easy" to be 1st on the timesheet there, but not here... And if the car goes well on trackdays it´s just a matter of getting some sponsorship and replacing the windows for plastic in order to compete in official racing! Dreams, dreams, dreams hehehe

Tarconal... have you tried adjusting the camber on the wheels ? Also not so stiff... so it can flex a little ?

Very nice... Maybe also a weight saving program... DIET...

Lighter = Faster

The perspex windows also shave weight....

Well done... Nice to see Smaller cars bully the big boys...

The diet was made! I managed to remove almost 100kg from the car just by removing rally stuff like underneath shields, wiring and useless equipment, etc. But I want to weight the car because the new engine is a bit heavier... Even though it is now monted much lower and further back than the original one, it still might have increased the weight a little bit on the front axle.

I adjusted only the front camber but not so much, it was -2,5... Must be more! But not much more because the car has too much power and will miss the traction lost by the camber! To correct the rear camber I will have to buy a new axle because this one has some work on it to allow such huge rear cambers... I´ll get a new axle and strenghten it up to lock the rear as much as possible... FWD cars on tarmac must have their rears hard as a wooden stick hehehe.

If you come to Brazil to visit any relatives or anything like that you´re invited for a quick lap hehe!
