They are the symptoms of a crank speed sensor, ive just checked on another site. Exactly what you said above, and also no spark.
However, I have read three members on here with that fault, and each one got a fault code for it on diagnostics. (G28 speed sensor). So it really needs reading. I use a fault code reader which cost £30 (autel) off a popular auction site, or its about the same cost at any garage. With a reader you can reuse, which is handy. Its easy to use the socket is usually beneath the steering wheel, pull down the compartment and its on the left.
I think its £70 for a speed sensor, so its not cheap unfortunately.
The metal bit on the end of the leads needs to be snug on the spark plug, when I buy new leads I have issues trying to get them off because of this! Also the rubber insulation should go further down the plug ie over it, basically the metal bit that connects onto the spark plug should be an inch roughly inside the lead.
It might be worth taking a lead off a plug, sticking a screwdriver inside and resting the screwdriver on the engine so the shaft leaves a small gap. Then do the same test as with the spark plug ie turn it over and look for a spark. If no spark do the same with the lead that goes into the centre of the distributor cap, if no spark then it suggests either bad coil (shouldnt be as it is new on yours!) or that no voltage is going to the coil (likely).
After above its very much sounding like the speed sensor, however if youre feeling mechanically minded you can check the coil using this link;

sorry about the long reply i wanted to include everything
