Hi Guys

Only just joined the forum

I've got a Seat Ibiza 1.9 SDI 'Cool' edition

Today though it won't start

Could it be a fuel pump failure? or electronic issue?

I've had the ecu checked and no faults there

Just pretty stumped what it could be, this is my first seat and first diesel aswell

Any help/advice would be much appreciated

Thanks

Immobiliser fault should start and then stop again a few seconds later usually.

Its either gonna be fuelling or the glow plugs. Check all electrical connectors you can find. Maybe also leave the battery off to reset the ECU for 15 mins. Make sure the fuel pump fires in the usual place (usually opening the door). Make sure the rails near the engine have fuel in them too!

This is an SDI, distributor pump diesel with no turbo. So the only fuel pump is the injection pump.

Dumb question, but is there fuel in the tank?

A simple check for fuelling is to undo one of the pipes at the injector and turn the engine over. Fuel should spurt out. If it doesn't then something is stopping fuel getting to the pump. Maybe the fuel filter is blocked or the fuel pickup from the tank is blocked or faulty.

There is a vacuum operated flap valve in the inlet, where the hose from the air cleaner joins the intake manifold. Apparantly this is there to ensure that the EGR system works properly at low revs by throttling the inlet to cause lower pressure on the inlet side of the EGR valve. It might be worth checking to see if this is staying open when you try to start the car. Like all diesels, the vacuum for brake and engine control servos is provided by a vacuum pump, which is on the end of the cylinder head on the 1.9 diesel, driven off the end of the camshaft.

If it still won't start, it may be worth putting a message in the VAG-com section of the forum to see if there's someone close to you who can see what (if any) fault codes are being set.
