Not for me obviously, but my sisters car cut out this morning on the way to work.

She had drive, then suddenly it started to splutter and then conked out. It restarted, but then there was no throttle, like it was fuel starvation.

I was on my way to work only a few mins behind her, so i was able to stop to see if i could help, while we waited for my brother in law to arrive.

I re-started the car, and left it with the throttle on half rev for a moment, and it seemed fine.

Myself and our Rick are working on the assumption it could be something to do with the fuel pump, maybe an intermittant electrical issue. It was very wet this morning, light drizzel which can play havoc with electrics. The car has a full tank of fuel.

So the question is, has this happened to anyone with a Mk2 1.4, or do you know of anything that might be a credible cause of this problem.

engine speed sensor... right at the front, but just behind the engine mount

that or a vacuum leak, but they tend to be all the time

Has the engine light come on?

We have a car in work with similar symptoms, we're looking at the cam sensor as the car threw up a fault code pointing to that. Contaminated fuel and knackered oxygen sensors can also do similar things, but its rare that these will make a car conk out.

Will let our Rick know, he's quite experienced at spannering. :p Far more than me as you know. But it gives him other avenues to explore. Sounded ok when i was revving it. Karen said it was making her out to be a lier. :p

Rick ended up taking it home and let her carry on in the Honda.

Don't think so, it didn't appear to be slipping when i was messing with it.

Its a late Mk2 1.4i S, they chucked a lot of Sport stuff in it as an end of line. Even though its only an S. Its an R reg i think but maybe a bit newer.

Nope, you know me Tom, im not totally unknown to the mysteries of SEAT ownership. :D No warning lights or anything, she said nothing lit up on the dash when it was trying to cut out, until it did cut out of course.

Just the normal oil pressure lights etc when the car is not running, but they go out as normal when its restarted.

I know I know, you could've forgot though! :p

I guess it starts as normal? If it was me I'd VAGCOM it and if it lists nothing I'd check the vacuum hoses and try to listen out for a knackered cat.

Good luck!

Mk3 Polos (91-94) can be VAGCOM'd (with different cables), so MK2s will too.

The OBD port is behind the glovebox under the steering wheel.
