It's a great engine, but I didn't find it as economical as you would imagine. I had one in my last car which I didn't drive hard and usually only got around 39 mpg. I drive my Cupra the same way and get about 44mpg on the same journeys. Other than that though, the engine is fantastic and performs well above its weight. The I tech had some nice features, particularly inside. Have a drive and see what you think 
I've got the same engine with a DSG gearbox. With a 7 mile crawl commute every day and a couple of 70 mile round trips each week, it averages 43mpg and gives around 45mpg on longer motorway trips. Those figures are based on brim to brim re-fuelling calculations (not the car computer) taken over the 3 years I have owned it. Oh, and it doesn't have the start/stop function which more recent models have.
As usual, the manufacturers figures are a work of fiction !
Performance-wise the engine is at least as good as a non-turbo 1.6ltr - of course having 6 or 7 gears helps too.

was there something wrong with it
the missus at worst gets that out of ours in stop start traffic to work!
normal running round town 42 - 46
out of town we have seen as high as 56
motorway it tends to drop a bit as you get above 60 and you will probably see no higher than about 48
all worked out on tank to tank fill ups

That's just what I got. My mum had the same engine in her pre faclift sport and did a lot of start stop driving and got even less than I!
Been for a test drive, and loved how smooth it feels to previous petrol cars ive driven. Got a nice little kick when the turbo kicks in! Im expecting low MPG to start with but hoping to get in the mid 40's!
The new I-Tech models have great spec esp inside ie..half leathers n sat nav plug in...all round a nice car!

The 1,2 TSI 105bhp is a lovely little engine, fun to drive and decent performance.
I never got even close to the numbers MPG numbers listed by Seat, but that's prob more down to how I drive.
Hopefully they have fixed all the issues with this engine that I've read about and happened also to me (2011, turbo and timingchain swap after 2,5 years).
