Hard to say really - I don't bother keeping track of it as I only do very short journeys so I usually get something fairly awful.

The only time I was interested was the journey up to and back from P-Torque (Bristol -> Wolverhampton ->Bristol) and considering I was 'testing the goods' on the way back a fair few times, the MPG was virtually the same for both journeys.

I think the general consensus is that the MPG will generally at least stay the same or improve slightly with a re-map, but as you're more likely to put the boot in with the increased power (at least if you're a child like me) you'll probably find it drops a little.

Worth it though :)

Hi :)

Sorry to Hijack this thread, but I am in a similar position, and possibly looking out to buy one of these very soon.

Good to see such a large community of people with interest in these cars! I hyave always liked the look of them, and love the 1.8T unit they have.

I have seen a car I am interested in, from a car dealer, so it is a little more expensive. What do you think of the spec and price of the following?

5 Doors, Manual 6 speed, Hatchback, Petrol, 70,000 miles, Metallic Grey, 1 Owner. BLACK LEATHER, ELEC/SEATS, CRUISE, TCS, ABS, CLIMATE, ELEC/SUNROOF, 6XCD, ALLOYS, 4xElec/Windows, 4xAir/Bags, Central Locking, Power Steering, Seat Service History.

£6,790

I would not normally look for a car with this sort of mileage, but the 1 owner point is appealing.

What do you guys think?

Cheers :funk:

Alright mate...

I used a glasses guide to price my car back in December (neighbour is a dealer) and it was on the forecourt at 6.5k and the guide said 6.4k (69k 03 plate) and I expect prices haven't changed that much.

If the car you are looking at is also 03 plate then the price is fair enough. Leather, e/seats and e/sunroof were all optional extras. I did notice when I was looking that if you like the yellow or purple/blue colours you could get a car with lower miles or slightly newer reg.

You could also buy slightly older and go for an LCR.

Thanks for the info guys.

There are a few pictures of the car, and from what I can see it looks very good. It is on a 53 plate, so from what you've said, the price sounds about right :)

I was looking at Golf and A3 1.8T's, but I personally prefer the looks of the Leon, and the price's seem very good :)

I take it that sort of mileage on these cars is no real issue? Are there any known problems to look out for as these miles creep up further? The car will be used on a 50-60 mile daily commute, so I think it makes sense in some ways to get a car which is already up on miles.

Want to go an see it now, its only down the road, but its crap out there, and I'm stuck at work :(

dont forget aswell mate that the golfs (unless its the anniversary edition) and A3's (im not 100% sure on these) have 150 bhp standard and not the 180 in the LC and 210 or 225 for the LCR. Makes a diffence to start with at least 30 more in a car that looks better(IMO) and is cheaper to buy.

Welcome by the way, you will love the car (you will notice little things missing in the interior where seat have cut the odd cost but it makes it all the better for modding TBH eg Passat interior light, sunglasses holder etc) and dont think there is a mod that hasnt been tried or discussed on this site so information is top class.

Fair play I have to say that ive never been on such an informative Forum and absolutely landed i bought my leon now. Better stop now before i start filling up   :D

No a bit thanks to all on here, top bunch

I just popped down the road to have a nosey at it (didn't have time for a proper look, so the car was locked), looks straight, few stonechips, and a little reversiing ding on the rear bumper, nothing major. From what I could see, its nice and clean inside too.

Thing is, I noticed against all of the other cars on show, that the Cupra had the windows misted up, and I also noticed in in the indicator section of both rear light clusters. This looks to me straight away that there is a leak somewhere, what do you think? It could be from cleaning, but judging by the discs, I don't think its moved for at least a week, and it should have cleared by now.

Might have to have a proper look at it soon, so a few pointers would be good if possible. I've had problems with 2 cars letting water in, and I don't really want the hastle of tracing leaks again!

Thanks :)

sounds like it does have a leak mate. The water in the rear lights tends to be the rear washer pipe coming off (not a big job at all) and the leaks inside are usually from the door seals (need to reseal mine) and can be sorted with some new silcone on the metal door panels. Loads of info on here about them. Check the carpet in the car when u have a look mate

If it is a leak, get the garage to fix it or discount the car!

Though, being 6.5k I've got to make the obvious post...

You can pick up an 2003 Cupra R for 7.5k. Have you considering stretching your budget for that?

Don't forget at this time of the year it is very damp so it could be misting up on the inside because a bit of rain has got in whilst windows/boot open on the forecourt. It might be something that simple :)

Hi all i have just registered on this site but have been browsing since just before christmas when i decided to forget a sensible economical car and look to buy a seat leon cupra. I have just bought well in january a 2001 cupra with full history totally immaculate it was the previous owners pride and joy from new but he has now bought a cupra r.My only reservation was the milage being 172,000. I have just on last week put the car through the mot with no problems but my only gripe is from cold the car needs a good 30 secs to warm up if you try and drive off straight away it is juddery.Any suggestions ?
I absolutly love this car and it is just one niggle that i would like to get sorted.
I paid £1650 for the car as the owner was aware that the high milage will put some people off.Are there any other worries that i should have on this car considering the milage ?
