How to bleed 2.0 Golf GTTDI fuel

Quick help needed, my cousin has a 55 Golf GTTDI 2.0, I'm unsure if its the 140 or 170, he's ran it out of diesel and asked me to take him for a can of diesel but I'm sure you have to bleed air out of the system? could someone tell me how and where things are to carry out the proceedure.

I did this in my TDi Toledo, I took the top off the fuel filter, filled it with diesel, put it back on and cranked it! Took a few attempts but started

I don't suppose you know where the fuel filter is located on these engines do you?

I would have thought it'd be self-priming? On my PD150, if I start up when the fuel is low (well, below half) I can hear the pump priming itself as soon as I turn the key to ignition.

That is true but if there is air in the filter housing then it will not like that at all and won't start

My old Mondeo had a big yellow button that acted as a hand primer, it was a ballache but it worked. Is there anything like that on the VW engines?

It was self priming or whatever you call it, a couple of turns of the key and she roared back into life!

Later generation pd engines all have lift pumps in the tank which come to life when the ignition is turned on.
